What Will It Take for Americans to Help Iranians?

Because Americans care about their own lgbt community enough to help others with theirs?

This is sadly probably true. Despite how the Radical Right decries Islam, they no doubt hear about Iran publically executing gays and feel a tinge of envy that they themselves can't do the same.

Honestly, I think that this becomes more complicated because of our relationship with Iran is not a healthy one. Will Iran listen to us? Doubtful. Any pressure would be better applied by the people of Iran and Iran's allies. That does not mean we should do nothing. We should do what we can and encourage Iran's allies (that we have better relationships with???) to put the pressure on Iran. Using the United Nations for this purpose may also be somewhat helpful.

Do you think an online campaign may be helpful? They would need to be easily accessible in Iran and in Iranian languages.

We should be able to do the same for this as well.

Metta, criticism from the United States is only going to make matters worse. We represent everything that has gone wrong in their country.

They might possibly listen to the EU.

we can keep the spotlight on them, but little else

officially, the US and US companies don't do business with Iran, so we have no leverage

we could do more in Saudi Arabia, which also executes gays

and certainly more in Russia, Serbia and China, all of which oppress their lgbt communities

I'd love it if the US offered asylum for gays, similar to what we did during the cold war

Iran doesn't need an invasion, but a revolution.

This.

But the only way this is going to happen is if the Iranian government doesn't have the US and the West to use as a false rallying point in their repression of their own people. Or the issue of Israel to keep the people of Iran from realizing that the real problem is the theocratic military dictatorship ruling the country.

Iran today si the result of the mess that the US and Great Britain made of the country back in the 20th century.

The hope for this country lies in the spread of the Arab spring uprisings into Syria and the pressure brought to bear on autocratic police states throughout the middle east.

America just can't ever be a good guy.

America hates its own lgbt people to care about others
America is imperialist and invades other countries for oil
America and the West are to blame for everyone's internal problems
America needs to mind its own business and stop acting like world police
Now America needs to intervene in another country's internal social problem? How? Without use of force you can't change anything. UN/EU/USA sanctions haven't done much. Also, this administration abandoned any chances at revolution when he sat and watched "Green Revolution" protestors get slaughtered while they begged for his help.

If anyone that is silent it is EVERY MAJOR LGBT organization not only in the U.S. but everywhere in the West. These organizations are too politically correct and afraid to speak out against Sharia Law in Iran and similar countries because we can't offend peace loving Islamist regimes. We'll just blame America instead. These organizations also know there is no money to be made in fighting for human rights of gays in Middle Eastern countries.

If Iran will "listen" to the magical EU, maybe write a letter to EU ministers for help. We saw how Qadaffi "listened" to EU's paper tiger until they needed funding from Pentagon to make him listen.

Why is it always the US that has to help? they have enough on their plate trying to keep their country operating without people expecting them to save the world.
