What would be your reaction/how would you be affected if there was a worldwide blackout?

Yes it's scary when it happens, especially at night. It'd like being thrust back into medieval days or The Hobbit.

We go out into the street and speak to neighbours we normally avoid.

Who said you need to be scared of no power? There are always options to free yourself of power companies and big oil and gas dependency.

^ The panels are connected directly to the state's electric network. They're not connected to my TV or fridge or Apple. :(

Would these survive a massive solar EMP ?

Don't think they would

errr... my brain just blacked out at the idea simple.gif

Several years ago, my street was without power for three days. One day, while shaving by candlelight, I could see that a neighbor across the alley (and, therefore, dependent on a different station) was watching his big screen TV. My first thought was, "I now understand the French Revolution!"

If the power went completely and permanently, my guess is we'd be eating each other by Christmas.

That would be awful! I would lose my lifeline to JUB.

A blackout (with no destruction - like Sandy) can be fun! I was part of the massive blackout in 2004 (I think it was '04? it was in August). The whole city was out for a few days (and it was over a weekend thankfully). Once it got to the point that food in the freezer was going to go bad, neighbours had a huge parking lot party and bbq, and everyone brought all their meat that was going to go bad and we cooked it all and drank cocktails all evening. It was SUCH a memorable experience - so fun and surreal to be right in the heart of downtown and there are NO lights. And a GREAT way to meet a ton of new people!

Now, there was another time I was without power for about the same amount of time - the 1998 ice storm. Now that was BAD, and NOT fun because it was FUCKING cold lol

Why speculate? I'm busy. I take it as it comes....
