I can't help put wonder how the people who shaped are country over the last couple of centuries would think if they could see the current state of affairs our country is in. I wonder what Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR, MLK Jr., and any number of other people would think if they could see us now. I believe outrage would be the closest word that could describe what they would be feeling... Or perhaps disgust.

No, but he would have a heart attack if he took a tour of some of our nations schools. His biggest message was equal education and that's yet to be fulfilled.

The founding fathers wouldn't be happy at how religious persecution is so popular.

Disgust is putting it mildly. They would call every president and member of congress since FDR traitors and recommend that we start over. They would be ashamed of how much money and resources the country wastes every year, and would be disgusted that our elected officials would let it go on for so long.

Funny thing about the French, American Political Philosophy at the time of the framers of the Consitution was in part shaped by French philsophers. Who helped was when we went to war with the United Kingdom to obtain freedom-- I will be damned if it were not the French. Funny isn't it...

What is more than funny is that the views you have that because I ask questions, make statments, and have thoughts that differ than the norm should mean that I am un American, be shipped to Cuba, or whatever or much more in line with Cuba, China, or the former Soviet Union. Just look at the protest that have occured in China since the Communist take over. What do they do with people have views differing than that established by the goverment? Torture, imprisonment, or death.

One of the most enduring symbols of liberty and freedom in the United States that greated immigrants for countless years was given to us by the French i.e. the Statue of Liberty...

Wow!! Just Wow!! You accuse others of being America haters and then make statements like this. I know all your democrat buddies probably feel the same way but just don't have the balls to say so. If we can spend millions upon millions flying queen nancy around in military jets I think we can keep up lady liberty. She makes great photos for airforce one too. The folks in New York loved the low altitude fly overs near the 9-11 disaster area. The obama the magnificent administration comes up with some real award winning ideas. Maybe we could get a new one from Fidel Castro or Hugo Chavez or one of the other people to the right of Obama. These nations have contributed much more to liberty in your mind I'm sure.

I doubt that MLK would approve of the reverse racism going on, either.

Personally, as for religious persecution, I believe the FFs would be astounded at both sides: at churches trying to get their views written into law, and at others trying to force churches to go against their beliefs. We've gotten so many holes poked in his "wall of separation", from both sides, that a Swiss cheese could be envious.

That wall needs to be slammed down, hard, to make a point: while religion has a place in public life (most of the FFs believed that), it does not have a place in law-making -- and no one has any business telling a church how it can use its property, who it must hire, or -- pertinent to us -- who it may marry.

Once believers (odd word -- doesn't everyone believe in something?) get the idea and back off, the wall could be eased up again.

But I'd say the biggest horror to them would be the national debt. Those guys would have the guts to slash spending right and left to get a half-trillion surplus next year, and keep that (or more) till the debt was gone.

We have wimps, preening in the shadows of giants.
