Whats an advantage in being gay ...

Again, man, did this thread ever go south quick. Being gay men doesn't mean the denigration of women. I don't see the advantage in that.

There is a fine line between articulating real difference between men and women and reinforcing caricatures.

To the extent that something constitutes a real difference then people can express a preference. I'm especially not fond of the way in which many people (most?) express their gender identity inside heterosexual relatiônships. I find they're the ones turning masculinity and femininity into caricatures. I just can't stand to see another straight woman passively passengering along while her man manly-drives her somewhere. I'm done with straight friends dividing up domestic chores into predictable "girl jobs" and "boy jobs." And I'm tire of knowing what men are actually like without the funhouse mirror of heterosexual social norms distorting that image, of knowing things like how men communicate both well and poorly and having it all reduced to "mansplaning" or whatever stupid trope is making the rounds. And yes there are queer straight people in relationships I find more relatable and frankly healthier and more interesting. But the gay thing generally saves me from having to wade through that and I do enjoy it.

The Jian Ghomeshi sex scandal is a perfect example of why being gay is better some women are BITCHES! I bet some of those BITCHES had sex with Ghomeshi yet later on claimed he abused them. When you deal with women they are never upfront or straight forward don't like their double talk and BS.

In the "west", the advantage of being gay is freedom to do what you enjoy.
I don't know if there is any advantage of being gay in conservative countries.

I think even in the west there are problems, socially gays have more rights but look at Australia it is a western nation but very conservative gays can't marry there. There seems to be a real fundamentalist Christian thing going on down under.

How would you know what it means? You're not gay......

Being in LTRs with both a man and a woman qualifies me to know some advantages and disadvantages of each, don't you think? What about the "gay" men on here who have never been been with a man ever? Or those who have never been in a relationship at all?

Maybe you can't read...or comprehend. The title of the thread is "What's an advantage in being gay..." It has nothing to do with Bi-sexuals, or relationships. Gay men who've never been in a relationship,or been with another man sexually, are still gay...bi-sexuals are not gay.

You may know the advantages and disadvantages of being a Bi-sexual in a relationship with a man, a woman, or both....but you'll never know what it's like being gay. Don't delude yourself...you're not one of us.

Not intended to be a slam...it's just a fact. I'll never know what it's like being bi-sexual, and wouldn't pretend to.

Well, I'm gay and mikey is absolutely right. Just because I don't want to have sex with women doesn't mean I can't see their value as people or that I should buy into sexist stereotypes of them being manipulative, controlling, irrational drama queens. His perspective isn't invalidated just because he's bisexual. He doesn't have to be gay to recognise how sexist this thread is.

It's honestly fucking embarrassing. We as gay men deal with so much ignorance/irrational hate/discrimination (not to mention the pervasive negative stereotypes). Instead of mindlessly doing the same thing to other groups of people, you'd think our shared experience would result in a little more compassion/empathy. Wrong, because here we are in a thread filled with a bunch of sexist idiots saying bigoted bullshit with absolutely zero self-awareness whatsoever.

It's also hilariously ironic that apparently gay people are qualified to comment on the dynamics of heterosexual relationships, yet bisexual men aren't qualified to comment on gay ones because they're not "one of us". A little bit of unnecessary divisiveness to top off this shit-sundae of a thread.

Jesus fucking Christ.

I think just by looking at the unbelievably sexy guys in gay porn we can see that's a huge benefit to being gay

^I am sorry that there is disrespect, not only in this thread but many others about bisexuals. My fella is bisexual, and his thoughts on this topic are just as valid as mine.
Please accept my apologies on behalf of members who show such ignorance on this topic............(*8*)

^You are quite correct Pat, he is not. Though why that should stop you from "maybe" showing respect to another, says more about you
than anything else.

There's a zillion people and a zillion cultures in the planet and in the universe. You have to prioritise. Numero Uno come first.

^Nice piece of hyperbole, i do place certain things in a certain order. I have to disagree Pat, just occasionally number one does not always come first.

Well so much for the LGBT community, eh?

Just ignore the Bi bashers that's what I do.

A few of them got Kim Kardashian censored in HT

A naked woman is art.

No Pat, it is when one puts the safety and security of another before ones own. Quite simple, if you gave the idea some thought.
