What's it like to have your wisdom teeth taken out?

Wow, this is so relevant. I gotta get mine out this summer, last time I was at
the dentist, he was like "You haven't gotten these out yet?" lol

I kinda keep putting it off, but they are really starting to annoy me...as soon as I get out of school, I'm getting these pulled out. And I'm afraid too...*sadness*

Wow. Mine weren't bad at al. I went to an oral surgeon, he gave me an IV sedative, and freezing, and 20 min later, they were all out. Gave me a perscription for Tylenol 3's, but they never did a thing for me. Was barely in any pain. I ended up taking regular ibuprophen for the pain, and there was no swelling at all.

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out a age 23, they gave me Sodium Pentothal or truth serum. Told me to count backward from 100 and the last I remember was 97. They gave me percaden for the pain now illegal because it is so good. Replaced with Vicoden, which I hate. But the pain was not bad and I just remember waking up at home in my bedroom and then eating spaghetti for dinner. Just make sure you follow the doctor’s orders about care after you have them pulled. It was not that bad I was scared as well you know the horror stories people tell you. so good luck.

I was just thinking today how I should probably get them taken care of before I go away to school... doesn't sound too bad... I have a high tolerace for pain so I think I should be fine in 2-3 days at most

Glad everything went well.

Wow, sodium pentothal?!?! That was quite a while ago. And percadan isn't illegal... it's still available but not used much because of the aspirin in it, not b/c it was so good haha.

doctor crushed/broke them then removed the pieces...some procedure - not sure if they do anymore. i went about 20 years ago. anyhow, i remember it clear as day....put out cold, but woke up in the middle...felt no pain but heard the conversation, saw the lights, and felt the pressure, etc. i think they knocked me out again after they saw my facial expression  lol

used powerful pain meds for a day or 2 after, no problems!

Wow. You guys were lucky to get narcotics afterwards! All I got was lousy Tylenol 3's.

I had all four wisdom teeth out when I was about 25 I think. The only positive thing I can remember about the ordeal was the pain meds. I think it was called Percadin and i was on it for about 4 days......I loved it and sadly I'd have to say that those were the best 4 days of my life. Anyone know where I could get some more?

I had mine done a few months ago. All 4 out, two of them impacted sideways. Local anesthesia with gas, lasting about an hour and 15 minutes. The procedure was painful, but I am pretty good at enduring pain.

Afterwards, the recovery was really not very painful. I took one vicodin shortly after getting out, and then did not take any at all after that one. I took tylenol for about two days. The bleeding/oozing and gauze was the most annoying part, and I was out of commission for about two days. MAKE SURE YOU ICE! An ice pack on each side of your mouth for the first 24 hours will cut down on swelling by a lot. I was barely swollen at all. I was prescribed a painkiller and an anti-inflammatory, but no antibiotic. You may differ.

I have one piece of advise for anyone losing their insurance in the near future, and your dentist says that you need to have your wisdom teeth removed at some point: Do it now, while it's still covered. Otherwise, you may have to get them out (and pay through the nose) if/when you start experiencing pain.
