Here is a link to a photo I found (not mine) but it's the exact same thing I noticed on my tongue today. It looks like a piece of long fleshy rice with a white tip. Instead of two of these like in the pic, I only have one at the back of the tongue near the last molar tooth. What is this? :help: http://www.boingboing.net/filesroot/200806101423.jpg

From a Google Images search I did, it's apparently tongue warts caused by HPV: the Human Papillomavirus.

Get tested.

I thought about HPV before posting here and looked at tons of images of oral warts, and none of the HPV warts resemble what I have. Then I read there is no accurate testing for HPV in men and no FDA approved methods of diagnosis.

If you have had them from a young age then it shouldn't be HPV.

I have had these (not to that extent in the picture though) from a very young age and was similarly intrigued a while ago, but didn't bother finding out. I assume they will be some random growth on the body in the same manner that men are equally afraid and confused by pearly penile papules.

My boyfriend had something that looked almost exactly like that at the base of his tongue. We never figured out what it was, but it spontaneously went away after about 5 or 6 weeks. Could it be a mucocele or sialolith?

You should ask your dentist. I had a small dot on my tounge for quite a while and my dentist suggested that because I was a smoker at the time, I should have it removed. I went to an oral surgeon and he cut it out and stitched it closed. It turned out to be nothing according to the biopsy but it's still a good idea to get things like that looked at.

Funny thing is I finally made an appointment to see a doc but this thing went away completely. #-o Now I don't know if I should cancel my appointment or still see him and waste my sick-leave day.

Maybe you should still see him, just to get tested. Couldn't hurt!
