What's the appeal of bacon bits?

Piggy...That pic FEATURES nothing but Artificial bacon...I buy REAL bacon-meat bits or I fry up my own and crumble over a salad..

have to agree bacobits are nasty (but when the munchies strike...mmmm they do satisfy for trashy crunchy goodness but sooo artifical)

Whenever I make cheap 20p packets of ramen noodles I sprinkle bacon bits in there because I don't think having a few dried peas and a mild chicken flavoured powder mixture works well.
 
I don't like the imitation crap but REAL bacon bits are delicious. Specially on a caesar salad. And in twice baked potatos. And on burgers. And on chicken sandwiches. And so on......
 
well in high school we used to throw bacon bits at each other during lunch :D
