What's the general consensus on leather pants (not chaps)?

Go ahead.

They were pretty hot back in the day...like the late 70's and very early 80's.

Maybe you can re-start a trend.

You will have to get them professionally cleaned though. And that might not be cheap.

I think very few people can pull off leather pants in day to day life. I don't think I could.

In sexy time situations they can look very hot.

There are plenty of websites out there about how to clean leather clothes ..|

When my ex's ex passed, he blew the estate on a trip to England, and came back with 2 pairs of leather trousers that cost well over a grand, maybe 2 (i forget) I thought they were sort of sexy, and I'm not really a fetishist like that. I say if you like them, jump on them. My ex never cleaned his, and he shared them with HotBoiz (tm). He also spray-painted them frequently; it leant them an intersting patina, especially as the paint aged and flaked. Gold was my favorite color for them.

I can't imagine them being too comfortable on me(I hate pants that don't have any give).

Some hot looking guys look good in anything, no matter how outdated or out of fashion it may be. Are you one of those people? If not, then you probably should forget the idea.

^I've been told that I look good in almost anything (including nothing at all ), so I think I'm going to go for them. And seeing as how ixthrock said that brand-new leather pants cost a grand apiece, I'm thinking they're pleather (they're only $50).

Find out if they are leather, try them on and buy them if they fit.

IMHO leather trousers are ridiculously overpriced these days because of the small market for aging homosexuals who are supposed to be very rich and the fact that leather trousers for men have been out of fashion for men for at least thirty years.

The other reason that they tend to be so expensive is that the gay men who wear them have them tailor-made

They were fancy pants, with some funky-punk tailoring.

Generally not hot.

As to cleaning them, they are not gonna get dirty. I would just wipe them down with a damp sponge. People wear leather coats/ jackets all winter long without getting them professionally cleaned.

Yeah, but even still, cow skin doesn't come cheap. :p I mean, they ARE at a sports consignment store, so they're obviously going to be relatively inexpensive, but real leather is very dear.

If you're lucky, you could get a fitting pair for much cheaper second-hand.

Will probably look better too.

They're very comfortable. I love my leather pants. I have about 8 pairs.. They can be a bit hard to break in and make them yours... But it's always worth it.

Leather doesn't breathe, so they are going to stink like the dickens if you don't baby powder before you put them on. Also, wear underpants, even if they're lined.

I have a pair or them, love them and got many compliments when I wore them. However, they made me so hot that I end up sweating really bad and wishing I could take them off. They remind me of that episode of Friends when Ross buys a pair of them and cannot handle the heat they produce.
