What's Wrong With Canada ?

Only a more successful, iconic Canadian company, would buy a US company outright, and then pretend it was a merger and start downplaying its Canadian roots. Thus Molson becomes Molson Coors. See also: Canadian Pacific Hotels becomes Fairmont.

And only an American company would buy a truly Canadian company, drive it into the ground, and turn it into Target.

Oh, I think Target drove it along the ground where they found it.

Zellers was useless. I had one nearby and it was close enough to check if they had something I need. On more than one occasion, I just left stuff at the till and shopped somewhere because they couldn't get their 1978 price scanner to work and then didn't know what to do, or the price would come up 200% wrong from what was on the shelf and then they didn't know what to do, or they had one till open with 40 people lined up and didn't know what to do, or…etc… I stopped going because they had such a spotty inventory, and because even if you managed to find something, the process of actually giving them your money was so painful, and so much more difficult than anywhere else. They ran that place into the ground long before Target came along. And it was easier & better to shop at Canadian Tire, which had basically all the same stuff except linens and clothes, which I wasn't going to buy at Zellers anyway.

Target is also pointless...just the same thing with fresher exteriors and cheaper-looking interior lighting. But it still has all the range of an as-seen-on-TV infomercial.

they promised that they would create jobs but the jobs they did create were only part time. and now that they have been here they are cutting down on these jobs.

Zellers was a hit and a miss, depending on which store you'd go to. One store seemed to have all the same crappy stock every time you'd go, as if no one was ever buying anything, while another store would have a fantastic selection of things you couldn't buy at Wal-Mart.
I used to get ambushed by Zellers employees, trying to get me to sign up for an HBC rewards card every time I walked in the door . I have 7 years worth of purchases on that card now, so next time I'm at The Bay, I'll see what I can do with all those points hehe

We used to jokingly refer to Target with a French pronunciation, with very soft 'g' sound and "et" pronounced as "ay", with of course the accent on the second syllable.

Actually, I've heard that pronunciation on television commercials. It sounds much more up-market even if it's more 'Roll up! Roll up! Roll up!"

We do that down here too. Funny place we have.
