What's Wrong With MTV???

I was watching something and saw the preview for a new reality show on MTV called "Exiled". It is about sending the sweet 16 girls to a remote areas around the world. This looks stupid, because guarenteed that these girls will do nothing but complain and not respect the culture of the tribes that they are living with.
 
Believe it or not, young'ns, when MTV started back in the 80's it was thought to be about the coolest thing ever if you were a teenager back then.

Just the concept of a cable channel that showed nothing but music videos was revolutionary. I can remember cable companies selling these special new boxes that allowed you to play the audio thru the inputs of your stereo system. (gasp) Since there had never been 'all music TV' before, no one had ever thought to hook up their stereo to their TV until that time.

TV coming thru your stereo speakers ! Mind-blowing !! :eek:

Hard to imagine, but we used to have 'MTV parties'. Parties where the entire reason for gathering, (aside from getting drunk) was to watch this new thing called MTV all night long...

This may sound strange, and like something from ancient times to a lot of you, but it was a helluva lot of fun back then....
 
right now im writing a book outing mtv for corrupting todays youth, because the shows are crap and bad influences.
 
A better question might be, "What's right with MTV".

Don't even get me started on shows like The Hills, Laguna Beach, and Sweet Sixteen, etc.
 
MTV officially lost me as a viewer when they canceled Spygroove back in 2000.

Spygroove was one of the best most thought out hilarious shows ...

it was replaced by more Undressed and Spyder Games both of which were absolute crap.
 
I think the last time I legitimately watched MTV was Freshmen year in college. Everytime after class at 330pm, date my mom was on and my roomie and I would watch it because it was so fucking bad it was funny. Nothing like a cheap laugh to get you through the day.

All I see on VH1 and MTV are stupid, reality shows. (although I have to admit, Dr. Drew is on VH1 and he is smart and hot!)
 
MTV is shit, pure and simple. Seriously, who wants to watch some show called "The Hills" where these bitches prattle on and on about their pathetic lives? (And that's from the whole 30 seconds I've seen of the show!) That dating show "Next" is one the most fucking idiotic shows I have ever seen. Seriously, are people that fucking stupid?! Honestly, a labotomy sounds more appealing than watching MTV.
 
Get over it people.

A channel with nothing but music videos wouldn't draw in ratings. You have to remember that they're a business and they're catering to teenagers TODAY, not your generation.

If you want to watch nothing but music videos, get MTV2, MTV3, MTV: Hits, MTV: Jams, VH1: Soul, etc. They have plenty of music channels. You just have to pay for them

MTV does have a lot of stupid reality shows but they still have some decent ones. MTV: True Life is cool. Real World isn't bad. Made is a pretty cool show sometimes. Trust me, I'm not denying they have a lot of mindless crap but if it's just music you're looking for you have plenty of other options. Especially if you have the internet.
 
I always be a fan of True Life ...and Real World ( to some extent)

But the rest of the programming is shit.

And why doesn't Reality tv count? I know most of them suck now but They did have some Good reality shows. Remember Fear? True Life? and Road Rules?
