What's wrong is the prudish American attitude towards nudity. Hell, we are all naked underneath these clothes, and everyone either has a penis or vagina. Seems the censors are the perverts since they think the nude body is sexually explicit.

And you'll never see 2 guys kissing on American TV. When I was in France, I saw a news segment about gay marriage. They showed 2 guys in a lip lock.

What I have never understood is why nuidity and sex, perfectaly natural and legal acts are restricted, but shooting the shit out of someone, an illegal act, seems to ok in movies. Violence seems to recieve a much lower rating than sex.
The difference between showing male full-frontals and showing female full-frontals is that a woman's genitals aren't showing when she's just standing there. A woman has to spread out and the camera has to take a certain angle, before any actual genitals are showing. As to where with a man, unless he's horribly wee, the genitals are there from pretty much every angle and pose.
Of course, I think it's idiotic to make such a big deal of nudity in the first place. Americans are very silly about that sort of thing as a rule.

Smitho, I agree with you alot on the note that nudity is so frowned upon but senseless violence and use of fowl language may not affect a movie's rating. The fact that people fear seeing two guys being intimate more than one guy gleefully killing another guy is the status disturbs me. I remember seeing the movie "Death Trap" when it came out in theaters and people screaming, yes screaming, at the screen when Christopher Reeves kissed the other lead actor, whom I cannot think of right now. It was like the world had ended. They could not separate the actor from previous roles; the kiss comes towards the last third of the movie. Geez.

We have A (all ages), PG, 10, PG13, and 16 these days in .za. Very rarely something gets an 18 anymore, although it is in use.
We used to have in addition to A and PG the old 2-10, 2-12 (Dirty Dancing), 2-14 (Parenthood), 2-16 (Aliens), 2-18 (Backdraft) and the rare 2-21 (Full Metal Jacket, Basic Instinct) system which precluded anyone between those ages (assuming a kid under 2 would not understand or be concerned, was the theory). Eventually 2-18 and 2-21 were merged into 2-19 - Sliver, with Sharon Stone got a 2-19 - but these days with the new ratings, anything rated this highly is rare (and is now 18 anyway).
Typically, for a frame of reference, something like Crash is a 13 here, Hostel got a 16 and Kingdom of Heaven is currently a 10, according to an online .za retailer.
As far as nudity goes, it all depends on context. The rather dubious and explicit Ken Park, banned in many countries, got an 18 LNS (language, nudity and sex) but something like Eurotrip only got a 16LNS. On the other hand, the new British movie Confetti, which has several penises on display, only got a 13 because they are in an entirely non-sexual environment.

Ours is the flipside. In my video store days, people would inquire about the suitability of an age-restricted horror film for their kids/teenagers and we tell them it's violent, or it's quite gory, or there is an almighty amount of sex or whatever.
The standard response is "okay, but it's not evil, is it? No demons and witchcraft and evil stuff like that? I don't mind the sex and violence, but I can't handle it if it's evil."
I shit you not. Having said that, the school my sister teaches at has banned all instances or Harry Potter (no books, movies or t-shirts) for the same reasons, and I'm talking a thriving suburban school in a modern city, here.
