What's Your Favorite Musical?

Re: Musical Theatre....

All im gonna say is there is something wrong with the song title "Blow, Gabriel, Blow!" I obviously understand the meaning of the lyrics but still funny.

Haha. My friends got me doing into acting during my junior and senior year of high school, and Anything Goes was my first uh... production? Reading that brings back memories. None us could take that song seriously and there were tons of jokes.

Anyways back on topic. I just started watching musicals a month ago. I watched Wicked a couple weeks ago with a friend. Totally a difference experience from watching a movie. Then I saw Avenue Q a few days ago with a group of friends. I really liked both of them. I've still got songs stuck in my head.

Technically I saw Anything Goes and Music Man, but I don't know if that counts since I was in it.

There's also this live version of Aladdin at Disney California Adventures that I saw if that counts as a musical.

My friends want to watch this musical called Sweeny Todd or something. I might go watch it with them on March/April when it comes LA.

Re: Musical Theatre....

I have seen The Producers Live. The show was much better than the movie. I could barely stand the movie. It was way to long. I also saw the Off-Broadway show. Naked Boys Singing. I loved it so much. It was relaly witty and the music was great. I also caught Legally Blonde on MTV today. I absolutly fell in love with it. I am most certainly going to get tickets to go se it. I also want to go see Wicked. I am a dancer and have had some musical theater training...to bad my singing is horrible otherwise I would be up there auditioning.

Re: Musical Theatre....

I'm going to see The Producers next month.

Saw Blood Brothers for the fifth time yesterday. It's such a great show. Very funny and very sad and the closing number (Tell Me It's Not True) is heartbreaking.

...Soooo Legally blonde was on mtv today...i liked it!

i heard that MTV is also gonna be showing RENT and WICKED...is this true??

Not as of right now. I don't know if maybe the execs at MTV or the producers of these shows are thinking about it, but I know for a fact they have not contacted Actors' Equity Association (the actors' and stage managers' union) about getting permission.

Also Universal Pictures is one of Wicked's major producers, so I think they would do a feature movie before recording a live performance. And, Rent just did a movie and...well, it didn't go so well (financially) :)

If MTV does this again, my money would be on Spring Awakening.

One of my favorite all-time shows!!! I'm so glad you liked it!

Re: Musical Theatre....

When listing the Sondheim shows I've seen I forgot A Funny Thing... at the National.

I absolutely love Parade
I'm going to see it in London at the end of November.

Re: Musical Theatre....

Watched "Chicago - The Musical" last nite. It was good and entertaining. There were some cute male dancers too..drooolllll

I have to say that Lawyer Flynn stole the show from Roxie and Velma.

Re: Musical Theatre....

I'm trying to boost my music collection of Broadway musicals. I currently have on my wish list at half.com:

Camelot
La Cage Aux Folles
[Title of Show]
Baker Street
Ragtime
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
1776
Monty Python's Spamalot
110 in the Shade
Curtains
Sweeney Todd
Billy Elliot: The Musical
Damn Yankees
The Pirate Queen
Mamma Mia!
Into the Woods
Anything Goes
Annie Get Your Gun
The Pajama Game

I've got Spamalot; Sweeney Todd (2006 Broadway cast); Billy Elliott; Mamma Mia (OLC); Into The Woods (OBC; OLC and Broadway revival cast) and Anything Goes (2003 London cast).

I have been listening nonstop to the Wicked soundtrack...its so much fun....
Didn't enjoy the show. Very over-rated.

Not really into musicals.

But if I had to choose one I'd probably say RENT.

Musicals aren't really my thing, so my vote goes to South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.

opera != musical theatre

Two completely different art forms.

My favourite musical is Calamity Jane. Very old now, but still great. I love the story and the songs. Another main reason for liking it is that the main star (Doris Day) is completely different in this role than most of her other roles. Here she plays a tomboy cowboy whereas she usually played a stereotypical housewife or something along those lines.
