What's your favourite 80's song?

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
The Cure - Pornography
Soft Cell - Tainted Love

So many great songs! Puttin' on the Ritz! and Love Plus One! Feel like downloading them all.

My favorite would be New Order's relatively unknown "Procession" (1981).

I would suggest lots of Debbie Gibson as well, I have all the Billboard Top Hits from 1979-1990 lots of great songs even though I was born in the mid 1980s.

I also like a lot of Whitney from the 1980s also. One of my fav Tina Turner songs is We Don't Need Another Hero. If you have VH1 classics they always show lots of 80s music videos early in the morning on weekends I believe... its great!!!!

I absolutely LOVE music from the '80s. My iPod is full of '80s music. I have too many favorites to narrow it down to one. I'll list a few of my favs though.

1. Little Red Corvette - Prince
2. Affair of the Heart - Rick Springfield...or pretty much anything by Rick Springfield.
3. Who's Holding Donna Now? - Debarge
4. Through the Fire - Chaka Khan
5. Betty Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes
6. Physical - Olivia Newton John
7. Lonesome Loser - Little River Band
8. Missing You - John Waite
9. Suspicions - Eddie Rabbitt
10. Upside Down - Diana Ross

Great, great music from the '80s. I probably listen to more '80s music than current music. My XM is usually tuned to 008/'80s on 8.

Recently read where 40% of digital music sales are from people buying music from the '80s.

We have very similar tastes in music. I would add "Eternal Flame" by the Bangles.

There are WAY too many great songs from the 1980's to mention. The British mini-invasion of the early 80's is my favorite of the rock era. Human League, Flock of Seagulls, Men Without Hats, Dexys Midnight Runners, etc.

The song that comes to mind when someone mentioned 80's songs is Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners. Other favorites are:

Turning Japanese - The Vapors
Take On Me - A-Ha
Betty Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes
Keep Feelin' Fascination - Human League
If You Were Here - The Thompson Twins
Little Girls - Oingo Boingo

Just named a few of my favorites.

TBH I probably have about 300 songs on the ipod all from the 80s, there truly are just way to many to list. From my observation it was probably the best decade of music by far, pretty much everything since is crap.

OMG, I can't believe nobody's mentioned Dead or Alive's Brand New Lover! :gogirl:

To me, this is quintessential 80s. It doesn't get more 80s than this. The synthesizers, the electronic drums, the dance beat, the electronic "wall of sound" ... and the hair, makeup, and dance moves of Pete Burns!

Anytime I hear Brand New Lover, it takes me right back to being a sophomore in college, going out to Pogo's in Boulder, hanging out with my New Wave friends in the dorms... great times! :D

Way back in highschool I love listening to karma chameleon. I even bought a cassette tape of the 80's hits just for that song. I am 29

Had to do it:

Dexys Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen

Madness - Our House

I have to admit the Bronski Beat song must have been door-opening in its age! Of all the songs mentioned so far I'd definitely choose that one, but being Austrian (well, from Italy's German-speaking bit) I choose this one:

BTW, I didn't really live very consciously in that period, as the OP said, but hey, I was born in that decade ;)

Hey, another German 80s track, this time a tune that every one of you can hum along! And I bet your grandparents and grandchildren know this one too!

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, one of the greatest dance tracks of the '80s :-)

There are far too many songs from that decade to choose an outright winner, so here, in no particular order, are just some of my favourites :-)

Cruel Summer - Banarama
West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys (as well as much of their '80s work)
Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes
It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls
When Doves Cry - Prince
Take My Breath Away - Berlin
Don't you Want Me - Human League
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Smalltown Boy - Bronski Beat
Self Control - Laura Branigan
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Ashes To Ashes - David Bowie
Once In A Lifetime - Talking Heads
When Love Breaks Down - Prefab Sprout
Same Old Scene - Roxy Music
Toy Soldiers - Martika
Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits
The Killing Moon - Echo And The Bunnymen
Broken Wings - Mr Mister
Drive - The Cars

As well as various songs from Eurythmics, Madonna, Tears For Fears, The Bangles, Culture Club and Queen. And all of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's songs :D

Thompson Twins - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taNW-V8d7tw&feature=related"]Hold Me Now[/ame]

Ihave a picture,
pinned to my wall.
An image of you and of me and we're laughing and loving it all.
Look at our life now, tattered and torn.
We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears that we cry until dawn

Air Supply - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQwco47UdQs&feature=related"]Making Love out of Nothing at All[/ame]

And I know just where to touch you
And I know just what to prove
I know when to pull you closer
And I know when to let you loose
And I know the night is fading
And I know the time's gonna fly
And I'm never gonna tell you
Everything I gotta tell you
But I know I gotta give it a try

What great songs in the 80's ..... I could go on and on an ...

Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler(the longer complete version)

I agree totally with you, roadtrip, but see this [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-x9ygQEGA"]spoof of nonsensical music vids[/ame]
It's hilarious :-):D:badgrin:
