I'm sure that winter heating around the world contributes tremendously to CO2 emissions which effect climate change, but telling people to freeze to death to save the planet is clearly not an option. As I'm sure that air conditioning in the modern world in the summer, and even all year in places like Florida, also contributes tremendously to CO2 emissions. The point being that we have to look at everything if we're serious about mitigating climate change.

Oh the predicament

Why not just settle in livable places?

But AC is a question of survival only to spoilt people: but people in danger of dying from heatwaves might be helped to settle in more livable locations too

ooooGORGEOUS AND GLORIOUS

Not the slightest trace of clouds or even contrails (the couple of planes I noticed were flying very high), and the sun was quite high at 17:00 to make my sunglasses more useful than customary the past few weeks, while I was walking back home. Still, chilly enough to wear my tighter, thicker turtle, although it was just the usual 7-15ºC that makes some guiri hunks more comfortable in shorts and summer shirt.

I keep my thermostat at 62° F. My fireplace is used in the evenings when I'm watching shows/movies.

For the last ten years I've planted enough trees every year to totally offset my carbon footprint. This last year that may have been not true since our dry summer brought such a high mortality rate among the young trees and seedlings -- it's hard to say since I planted so many I didn't bother keeping track of where they all went.

Mostly sunny but cold.

I'll be planting a couple more trees today. There's a low spot behind a dune ridge right off the parking lot where I do conservation work, and Ive been filling it two to three feet deep in mulch, and planting trees and bushes near the edges. It's a bit of an experiment to see if the much thicker mulch will result in higher survival rates. What I'd really like, though, is to get the county parks people to agree that the material dredged from the city's boat ramp can be dumped in large quantities out there; it has about a hundred times the nutrient density as the dunes.
