So, I did a search and I didn't come up with anything. Please forgive me if this is a repeat thread.
I started reading Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series in 10th grade, more years ago than I care to discuss. I instantly fell in love with the world he was creating. Over the years I eventually stopped reading the books because I got tired of having to wait for the next one to come out. This past year I finally finished purchasing all of them for my Kindle, and did a full read through. It still held all the magic it did back when I first started, and I noticed, and learned things my younger self seemed to have either missed, or just didn't understand.
On 19 Nov they will be putting out the television adaptation for it on Amazon Prime, and so I figured I'd start a thread to see if there are any other WoT fans here at JUB. If so, what are your favorite parts of the series, what concepts intrigued you the most? Are you looking forward to the show eagerly, or are you concerned that they won't be able to do it justice.
For me my favorite part is the strong female characters in the Aes Sedai. They aren't perfect, and there are things about them I detest, but it's nice to see strong female characters, especially leading characters, in a high fantasy novel. Those tend to pander more to a certain demographic that can be hostile to such things, and Jordan just didn't even care. I loved the conceptualization of magic that he used as well. It made it far more realistic and less mystical than most. I greatly enjoyed the fact that diversity is a large part of it, with varying races, and even some minor mentions of homosexuality, which were treated as completely normal and accepted by those who were speaking on them.
As for the show itself, I'm honestly of two minds. It appears a great deal may have been altered, but it still looks quite promising. I am going to give it a chance, and just see how it turns out. If it isn't as good as it should be I've still got all fifteen books that I can reread, if I get the urge to revisit that world.
