People get to disappoint you at times, and you get to disappoint people too. It's cliché, but that's life: there's so much happening these days and our obligations clog our path from doing what's right for friends and other people we care for.

However a true friend will come through and make up for it, just as you'd do for them: that's a true friend. But those who won't do not deserve sympathy nor your friendship as they never were friends in the first place.

If you don't tell them, you're basically telling them it's OK to treat you like that, and they will continue to do it. People will only treat you poorly if you ALLOW them to. If you don't say anything, and it keeps happening, you really don't have a lot of room to bitch about it in here, IMO.

Sure, things come up. And if something reasonable comes up (work, family, illness...) I expect to be notified that plans have changed, not flaked out on or stood up.

'Friends' who flake aren't friends for very long, as if they treat you so poorly and disrespectfully they never were real friends to begin with.
