Seen this on a muscular guy (he is into men) and wondered if it held any meaning.

In all the places I searched, one or the other of the above was mentioned to indicate one's belonging to someone else and giving up your freedom whereas you wear the chain and padlock; but your owner has the key to indicate submissive bevhaviour.

I actually asked the guy and he responded and shared that it was for...

Halloween?!

So, I guess the lesson learned here is that it can mean a host of things (as what you guys mentioned here).

Or, it could mean whatever the person is wearing wants it to mean.

A Halloween accessory, lol.

But it was fun to learn about the history of it for those that DON'T wear it for Halloween

I was surprised by the response of Halloween as well; especially, after getting the responses in this thread.

That said, I always take people at their word--whatever it is they say or self-identify with.

Of course, the thoughts here seem more likely to what that chain/padlock symbolizes to others.

Nonetheless, he's a nice guy. Probably was taken aback by my question. He probably assumed all guys (on that particular site) knew what that meant, so articulating it might have surprised him. I'm speculating here, of course.

Anyways, I'll revisit the topic with him again to learn more. It is interesting, I must say the least. So I'm wondering what does the other man in his life wear to show that they are a "couple"? A key around his neck I'm guessing?
