When and how will the next collapse of civilization occur?

I agree, potable water will be the thing that underlies the collapse of civilisation as we know it.

One interesting aspect is that as land area decreases due to rising sea levels, natural sources of potable water will actually diminish.

I really like Heinlein's idea of massive desalination to create the Sahara Sea -- it would help keep sea levels lower, increae rainfall in a portion of Africa, and actually ameliorate the El Ninoe/La Nina cycle in North America.

Everyone is saying fossil fuels and global warming will end mankind... but we're far more likely to be finished off over a religion fueled war.

I think overpopulation and losing our natural resources

Imagine if 7 billion people all had stuffed cabbage for lunch. :(

If Republicans and their billionaire overlords ever gained control of every branch of government it would be the end of this country, I don't know about the rest of world though. They are dangerously close to ruining our country now, and it scares the shit out of me! Time for a revolution!

An EMP, natural or manmade (more likely) will throw us back into the 1800's. We rely entirely too much on computers in everything.

Climate change that changes the rainfall patterns and rising seas that flood land will stunt growth for a time but humans will adapt to this in time and recover. This could happen in the next fifty years or so, but who can tell?

Theft of electronic identification can also cause chaos in the next ten or twenty years, but again, I think that humans will adapt.

Religious wars will disrupt areas of the world for some time to come, but will probably diminish in a generation or so.

Anything that comes from outside our planet, like an asteroid, could set us back indefinitely or even wipe out humans.

I would like to hear more about this. Where can I find more on this.
