When Did America Stop Being Great ?

It is significant that the US bottom 10% "self reported health is almost the highest", notwithstanding the lack of actual socialized medicine.

The very first thing you learn on almost the first day of a demographics course is that self reporting should be regarded as next to useless. People lie or apply subjective meanings to things on self-reporting all the time for all kinds of reasons.

But we all know you aren't really interested in a rational yardstick, period. The problem is immigrants, always.

...People lie or apply subjective meanings to things on self-reporting all the time for all kinds of reasons...

Look to yourself. Your parents and grandparents made decisions about how to live and you must accept the consequences. Just as I do when I'm visiting or living in a place with a dominant culture.

There is a large subjective element in health. If you feel bad or feel good, that is more important than partisan democrats trying to convince you otherwise with a yardstick, "rational" or otherwise.

It doesn't play and it woud take too long for me to watch if it did play.

Envy of the world? I'm gonna mark this under "Typical American Pretentiousness" since I'm almost certain you haven't traveled the world polling, you assume our E.I. is the best because, well, this is 'Murrica so it MUST be, right?

It's really not a wild assumption. Simply research the foreign sales of American films and see how they compare to other nations' cinema and movie sales. No comparison. They want American cinema. They buy and steal American movies.
I'm going to go out on a very long, sturdy limb and guess that you're white. Oh, I'm right? Well how could I have guessed? Sure this racial equality thing seems golden on YOUR side of the fence, you don't have to worry about being denied jobs or housing, unjustly imprisoned, targeted by police, your son or daughter being shot on the way home from buying a cola and the killer being treated like a war hero, the list of racial inequalities in this country that you're probably unaware of is a mile long so I'll cut it off there. By the way, how's that fence between us and Mexico coming? You know, the one Americans are eager for so we can keep all those villanous brown people who don't speak our language out?

Sorry, but you don't get to restate my arguments as my own and then refute them. Never posted that equality was golden, only that the pastures aren't really greener abroad and there isn't any groundswell among American minority to head to those supposed Meccas of equality. As for the wall, it is easy to read my posts and see that I've never supported any anti-immigrant posts on this forum, so you'll have to refute that to someone who does. Everyone who disagrees with some point isn't automatically Benvolio. Bad logic.

And there's no greater indicator of our greatness in equality than the fact treating everyone the same under the law and in our daily lives is STILL filed under "Should we? Could we? Maybe." The fact that people come here to escape persecution or poverty only means... well, see above analogy about Rosie O'Donnell being MVP.

Touting equality, supporting it in law, and realizing it are all separate things. Freedom from poverty isn't the automatic result of equal rights in law. Equality in law should enable those who seek opportunity to access it, but it isn't going to happen quick.

Quality > sales. Britney Spears has sold more records than Bob Marley. People gobble up American cinema because it's full of sex which is an age-old sure-fire marketing scheme. Unless you're under the age of 30 I doubt you'd call anything Hollywood has pumped out over the last two decades quality, it's barely watchable.

Subjectively you feel better.
Objectively you die earlier than a number of other OECD countries that don't report the same satisfaction.

Positivity bias doesn't change fact.

So we feel healthier but die a year or two earlier. Many would say its a good trade. Who wants to feel bad and live a long long time? Does the show up on your yardstick?

That does not make sense.
People who live for a long long time normally feel great and has a healthy life.
People who feel bad and sick die quickly.

Positivity bias is when perception does not match reality.
Perception is nice, but deluded.

You just made that up. And you going against the poll as reprted by Kabluey 139 below: US "life expectancy below averare, but self reported health is almost the highest."

That.

He pulls some random ass meaningless "self reporting of self perception of health" stat out because if you actually looked at things like how many die of childhood illnesses or treatable diseases the US ranks poorly next to other first world nations. You know, objective yardsticks.

Who cares if Americans delusionally "believe" they must get better healthcare than most of the rest of the planet 'cuz America's the best at everything.

You can pay girls to breed illegitimate children, but they do not always make good mothers.
