When did it become optional to use a turn signal?

I tend to oversompensate, unconsciously: when it's been a long day, I sometimes even signal on sharp corners in the road. That probably really makes people laugh... or maybe wonder what they don't know?

As far as others -- on the freeway, I see more signals at night -- but maybe that's because they show up better... which reminds me of another thing I hate: people who take their 4WDs out mudding and then drive on the roads with mud over ALL their lights, brakes included. Anyway, I judge that the use of turn signals is inversely proportional to the difference between the vehicle's velocity and the posted speed limit, on the open road. In the city, the bigger the vehicle, the less likely the signal.

Can someone tell me when it became optional to use the freaking turn signal on your automobile or truck? ](*,) :grrr: ](*,) :grrr:

Thursday, November 30.

People around here always use a turn signal... 2 DAMN MILES BEFORE THEY TURN! and they drive 20mph the whole time they have it on

Right! And you KNOW they know where they're going! God that drives me crazy too! Those people who drive half on and half off the road while making a turn drive me nuts too! They drive just far enough off that it looks like you can go around without getting into a head on, but far enough on that you can't without thinking you're going to die! UGH!! DAMN TURNERS!!!

1. The other pet peeve is when people drive for miles with the damn turn signal flashing away ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

In defense of those people, my step dad is 95% deaf and he doesn't hear the click thing telling him it's on, and I've had to tell him many times the blinker is still going, so maybe that's some peoples issue. Still though there's a lighted area so it's not really a secret that it's on.

It does drive me crazy also though.

I never use my in a turning lane b/c I figure that everyone is in the turning lane is gonna turn, hence the name of a turning lane. But like chaning lanes and stuff I do.

No one here in the South (but me) uses them, I hate it!

They are planning on passing a law next year that all pedestrians must start using turn signals, too.

How about people who pull around you to go because you're taking too long to turn (read: because you're not trying to plow into the car passing in front of your own)?

Heh -- I biked down from the fourth floor of a classroom building when I was in college, and very politely used my turn signal.

... all the way, because once I got going on the stairs, I was too busy controlling the bike to deal with a blinker!
