I know in Australia, it's different to the US in the sense legally you're an Adult when you're 18, but in the U.S. a lot of the legal rights are reserved for when you're 21. But once you turn 18 or even 19, for me, I still don't really find that I feel like an adult - if that makes sense, lol

I'm at University and I've been driving a little bit, take care of my own money - I don't work though. Just to me I don't feel that responsibility I suppose, which is probably what really defines it, that sense of being completely independent. For where I'm at in life it doesn't really change anything, but for now I'm sort of in a position where I feel like I'm inbetween.

someone said - we have to grow old - we don't have to grow up !!

When i got on the big airplane and 8 hours later had a Chief Petty Officer yelling at me -- Sir, yes Sir -- on my firt day of bootcamp -- I began to grow up -- I was 18 and 3 months -- and 2,500 miles from home - and no turning back -- 10 months later - i had finished boot camp -- my specialty school - travelled some 8-9,000 miles and found myself in Subic Bay , P.I. on the way to Viet Nam -- It was my 19th birthday - I smoked - but was a virgin in every way - but i guess by surviving the prior year - (and the hot uniform) i was somehow becoming a man.. Still working on it - 40 years later.

Coo, lemme know when ya balls drop.... :p

I knew I was an adult when I realized that getting mail isn't fun because it's usually just bills.

The first time I heard the dreaded "Sir"

31 and I feel like i'm 18 all the time, except when the mail comes. Then I see bill's and realize how old I really am.....

Oh god, the dreaded SIR!!!!!! The first time I heard that, I just froze for a second in my tracks.

Now I gotta say the only feeling so far that I've felt worse then that is, when you start sounding like your father. Just makes you feel old.

lmfao.

I remember the first time I was called that. Some kid, he was probably 16 or 17, called me that and inside I cringed. I felt down for the rest of the day.

As for the question I still don't feel much like an adult. I figured moving out on my own, getting a job, paying bills and other responsibilities would make me feel like one, but it hasn't.

I'm starting to believe there really isn't an "adult" feeling.

It comes in parts. Paying off student loans, the dreaded sir,
what made me feel old though was being in the closet.

I'm feeling a lot older suddenly - in the last couple of months 2 of my closest friends have married, one couple has had a baby while another one has announced a pregnancy, and another friend just buried his dad.

6 months ago it was just drinking, playing poker and streaking. Now it's suddenly all this adult stuff.

-d-

I felt like an adult when I turned 20, since I was no longer a teenager.

Let's just say I had a boss who told me, "it's not till your about 28 that people start treating you as an adult." and i have to agree. that was her from own experience and she was 50 and telling me this. being 30 now, yeah I don't treat people like adults until they're about 27-29, yes there are exceptions. but let's be honest.

20 when I moved out of home.

Had to start looking after myself, paying all my own bills, doing all my own cooking and all that stuff. Thats when I felt like an adult.

I had my first job with 14.
I started drinking age 15.
I voted with 16.
I had my first bf with 17.
I drove a car with 18.
Had a "real" job with 19.
Had a "real" relationship with 20.
Had my own place with 21.

You could say I'm an adult.
But I don't feel grown up :p
