if it weren't for the recliners and alcohol being served i would've been miserable watching Halloween Ends, it felt like that shit was 9 hours long. Other than Wakanda Forever when is there going to be a movie that justifies the $16 tickets and $80 popcorn? This was a stale ass year for theaters, the Bros movie could've been released on Hallmark that was NOT a big screen movie. And I'm a Marvel girl so don't even talk to me about Whack Adam. is there anything good on the horizon? when *Amsterdam flopped did hollywood get the message that an ensemble cast is a waste of capital if the plot is garbage.

*whatever that period movie is with Taylor Swift dressed like a flapper

never they would have to pay me to sit through the trash showing now

And the fact the movie is on streaming within a couple weeks makes it even less tempting to go to the movies...

I wait for the library to get the DVD. I don't have the setup for streaming, and I like the library's every day low price of $0. It's probably more of a wait than streaming, but it's not like the collection is so small I can't find something to watch... The worst part, actually, isn't waiting for the DVD acquisition--it's the wait for me to reach #1 on the holds list.

The last time I went to the movie's natural habitat, the movie theater, was back when George Bush was in office. And I only went because of a family gathering that wanted to go and see a-then current movie.

I was half thinking a movie might be a fun thing to do someday...but I think it was idle fantasy. Truth be told, I really like watching DVDs. I like being able to control the DVD. Pause? No problem! Rewatch a chunk after I'm done watching the movie? Not a problem! Eject and change to a different DVD after 15 minutes because the hyped movie is a pile steaming of crap? Not a problem!

And, as I commented on another comment, I like the pricing of the library vs. a movie theater. I also like the fact there are no obnoxious people in the audience. (Well, there is one--me.)

There's your answer. It sounds oversimplified, but there's no other explanation. Hollywood can only produce so much content per year and they follow where the (YOUR) money goes.

did hollywood get the message that an ensemble cast is a waste of capital if the plot is garbage.

Dude. You're a Marvel girl. Sit with it.

They're allowed to have garbage plots. We watch their movies for fight punch smash scenes and to see how far special effects have come since this:

I had Regal Unlimited (all the movies I could see in a month for $21), but gave it up because all the movies coming out were boring or not of interest. I have thought about renewing it for BP2, but for one movie I may just pay full price.

The movies coming out need to get more original and use less SFX.

remember when everybody was scared AI was going to replace actors? :rotflmao:

We rarely go except for the ones that MUST have the scenery and effects on a huge screen and be seen in 3d.

You pay for it. Hollywood gets the message and in their greedy, pathetic, artless attempt to make more money (nothing new, but now they've got an arsenal of technology and lower echelon aesthetes with short attention spans to work with) they figure they can infuse non-Marvel movies with the same bullshit.

I'm a John Wick fan, but the third installment, while more plot heavy than the second, was frighteningly Marvel-ish in a surreal, almost jovial way which runs counter to the tone of the franchise. It has tempered my enthusiasm for part four which comes out next year. I fully expect Wick to be pitted against grown men in armored bunny suits.

As for special effects, they've hit the wall. Hard enough to break through it, in fact, so your next cinematic technical marvel is going to be computer generated images of actors. I believe Bruce Willis has already licensed his image. So that's the future of cinema: near-total animation. The same thing will eventually happen to porn, assuming Grand Leader DeSantis allows it.

CGI has taken the mystery out of cinema. From "The Ten Commandments" to the original "Star Wars", part of the wonderment of moviegoing was the ""How'd they do that?!" factor of special effect work. Now anything is possible. The collapse of an entire universe doesn't look all that different than a bloody nose on today's screens. The splendor is gone, replaced with that perpetual and sickeningly American need for more more more.

I only went to the movie theater for the Harry Potter series - Lord of the Rings series - X Men series and Star Wars series. The last Star Wars I saw I HATED- when Princess Leia came back - so I skipped everything afterward, I have the Disney channel I can watch them on but no longer interested,

I am still willing to go to small indie movies and indie theaters - but only after covid.

I went to the movie theater couple days ago I had a gift card I only buy a drink at the conference stand cause instead of buying more at the theater I just went to the dollar store and buy something from their

I just hope we get the x-men reboot before I'm 60 AND that they do storm and rogue justice this time around. both were sassy power houses in the comics and 90s series, in the fox movies they were meek little mice you barely noticed on-screen. this is what happens when men write scripts for women.

I bought my friend I normally go with a movie purse. Ugly as hell, but big. I liked to buy our drinks and sometime popcorn there, but if we bought popcorn we took in cheese dip and or candy.

People still bitch about it. And somehow oddly SFX seems to be getting worse not better.

We have an art house movie theater close by. Good films are made, they just don't make it to the fourplex.
A wonderful Georgian movie we saw there:
