I heard that working out in the morning is a bad idea (a lot of heart attacks found in research) because your metabolism is highest when you wake up. Working out increases your metabolism, so doing so when your metabolism is already high supposedly would not be the best. I heard the evening around 5-6 is the best since it's not too close to sleep time, and it also allows you to burn off calories that you've consumed throughout the day, as your metabolism has gradually decreased. Any thoughts?

Workout? What is this thing called workout? It is an un-known concept amongst my people.

I'm afraid I can't participate in this poll as there does not appear to be an option to choose 'Never'.

Yes, never would be my preferred option here. Now where's the biscuits?

did not vote either---I work out when I have the time to do so---I work 8pm to 7am---so I went swimming at 4 am this morning (it's my day off) and the other night it was midnight and before that it was 4pm---so any time I feel the need.

If your goal is to lose weight, some evidence suggests morning (before you eat anything) is a more productive time to do cardio, because your blood sugar is lower, forcing your body to draw on fat reserves more immediately.

Personally, I'm not a morning person, so I find I have more energy after work than before.

I think so long as you get to the gym, the difference in time probably doesn't matter a great deal. I've been going to my gym for almost 7 years, and nobody has had a heart attack, morning, noon or night.

Before you have the first cigarette and blueberry danish in the morning.

I haven't heard that research, but I run in the morning before work. Wakes me up.

i work until 3:00am then i go to the gym because there is usually not a single person there.

Thanks to those who actually addressed my question :) For some of you, I asked when the healthiest time to work out is NOT IF or WHEN you work out.

Anyway, I read some stuff online and they said that most heart attacks occur between 6 a.m. and noon, but not that working out in the morning causes them. Also, people who exercise in the morning are most likely to stay consistent because those who work out later tend to make excuses for discontinuing due to issues that arise throughout the day.

I work out between 3 to 7 in the late afternoon and evening. I had better results during this time frame opposed to just doing it past 7 in the evening. Your metabolism normally decreases throughout the evening. I try to avoid food past 9 at night but sometimes I catch myself going to the club on a Friday or Saturday night and I end up grabbing a taco bell at 2 in the morning. How sad of me.

better before dinner because your body needs a good source of protien after your workout

For forty years I have preferred the morning.
At sixty-eight (almost) I have had no health problems related to working out
which has always been in the morning. Thanks for the heads up and I will look into it.
