Hi
My brother in law, Rick (not his name), is going to his first round of chemotherapy. He has a good prognosis. I believe it is of the lymph nodes.

Years ago, out of curiousity, I looked up chemotherapy on youtube. but I didnt really find much. This was 2007 I would say. I havent looked now to see how information videos, how serious it is. do they sugar coat the treatment?

I havent followed the health issues of others on here because I think I have my own stuff and none of it is cancer related, although I think "why dont I have cancer?" Im 56 years and I woudnt be surprised.

I was surprised that Rick is diagnosed with good prognosis. BUt again, this is scary for a family who hasnt been through it laterly. (My dad had 3 cancer and die in 2001). Thats a whole other story

Where would you suggest Rick goes to learn more about what is to come?

Thank you

I suggest he asks his doctors. There are many types of cancer and many different treatments which fall under the umbrella of chemotherapy. His doctors will be able to answer based on his specific illness, medication and prognosis.

Best of luck to him.

I'm sure there are forums for cancer patients where this is discussed, or, if he must, facebook or reddit.

Meh. Chemo is chemo is chemo.

There are as many chemo regimens as there are patients.

some of this is curative

some of this is palliative.

It is likely all good.

It can all be a bit harsh.

Just deal with it.

It is beyond the experience of mere mortals.

And I say this from conversations with leading oncologists that go back to 1980.

Just accept iit.

I agree. medical professionals are the best people to ask
My best friend's sister has cancer. 5 years ago she was given 2 years to live but she is still living, working full time and enjoying life. Medical science advances and improves every single day

I don't have much knowledge of chemo education.

I have a sibling that had chemo and radiation for breast cancer. At the 5 year mark after she completed her treatment she was still cancer free. I guess 5 years is what they hope for think you beat it. But later in the year the breast cancer came back (or maybe I should say it was rediscovered) in her bones and organs. She is coming up now on 2 years. They are slowing down the cancer with pills and injections every few weeks...not with chemo or radiation.

She has never asked her doctors what her life expectancy is because she didn't want to hear the answers...and she didn't want to tell her grown kids that she is terminal.
