When someone leaves the "Interested in" section blank on Facebook

...but fills in all the other sections. Doesn't that strike you as a little suspicious? I didn't fill mines in, but I barely filled anything in on my profile. I filled in the music, movies and TV shows and that's about it. Left politics, religion, age, and what not blank.

Discuss.
 
I think Sultan means the "Interested in ___ Men ___ Women" part. I can't recall ever seeing anyone who listed both. And only rarely have I seen a man say he's interested in men. But I'm not on Facebook and I go there rarely. I wouldn't put much trust into what they label themselves anyway. I remember when Myspace was popular, I saw one guy label himself straight, even though I know for a fact that he's bi or maybe even gay. But he would never publicly admit it. So I don't really take those seriously on Facebook either.

That's true. I've known quite a few people who know they themselves are bi or gay but either leave the option blank or put "women". Obviously I know why they'd do that but I also find it rare when someone actually puts "Men" and they're a male themselves. I have about 2 people on my friends list who do. I have a female I worked with who is openly bisexual, even on facebook.
 
From my experience, in most cases leaving the "Interested In" portion blank means that said person is likely gay.

I've seen guys who were in denial go from 'women,' 'blank,' and eventually 'men.' Mine followed the same path too.

Majority of the gays/lesbians on my Facebook have the option blank.

I know one shouldn't assume, but even with people I am unsure about - I always assume he or she is gay if their interested in is blank. Unless the person is in a relationship..

Does it make a difference to you if it's blank but so is most of the fields in the profile? Like if most of it is filled out but the "interested in" is blank?
 
I've had mine blank because I didn't know for sure, and didn't care enough to let people know. People take social media wayyy too seriously.
 
Myspace had a preference "gay, bi, straight" type space and choice. ...."Interested in"???! Well, I am interested in food, books, friends..... I hate the category that Facebook uses for preference.
 
I'm just glad that I'm so past that barely-out or still-in phase where I'm looking desperately for signs that someone may or may not be gay.
 
I would say the vast majority of my mostly-straight friends have nothing at all there. When you're in your mid-30s and quite possibly with a partner already, it seems kind of needlessly aimed at scoring hook-ups. At least it comes across that way.
 
I leave mine blank because I'm not "interested" in anyone. Not on Facebook to go dating. And I don't need anyone to try being a matchmaker to me.

(Except HERE, of course. :D)
 
I left mine off. All of my friends know i'm gay, my family knows, the coworkers that have asked me if i'm into girls know that i'm into men, so what am I hiding?
 
The best thing is to just leave your entire Facebook page blank, like I have done, as I have no Facebook account. That's the best solution. I'm starting to wonder how people interacted socially before Facebook came around.
 
They used telephones, emails, hookup sites, they went to peoples' houses. Hell, some mail letters.

All of those things, I still do(except letters, though I did send a present to one of my best friens through the mail). Don't see why each time a facebook thread comes up, SOMEONE states that they don't have it as a put down to those that do... it's a little beyond boring.

Not offended by it, just saying.
 
I have mine filled as 'Interested in Men'. I've had it there since I came out on Facebook on October 2010. And I open a FB account September 2010. Before I came out it was left blank.

I don't see the point in leaving it blank. To me, it's like leaving your age or religion blank. Pointless.

I don't mind it. It's better because people get so caught up in labels to the point where it gets ridiculous.
 
Its not anyone elses business but mine who I go to bed with and I would tell almost everyone who ask unless I feel the one who asks will be a douchebag after hearing it.

Typically, yes. If everything else is blank I assume that the information is not filled or not visible to anyone outside that person's network.

But if everything else is filled with details, yet the 'interested in' is blank, then I can't but wonder.
