.. do you too make up rules in your head?
Like .. do not/do only step on the dark tiles, always skip one row, only step on the joints .. etc? :help:

I do it only when I take my time to watch the tiles, if its a boring tile I dont care, but if its a really nice tile style/print then i tend to stare at it and make rules like those :-)

Yes, but I'm obsessive-compulsive. When I was a kid, I had to step on each block of the sidewalk exactly twice. That's not a problem in nicer neighborhoods, but in my neighborhood, the sidewalks were really irregular due to incompetent and hastily-performed repairs. Some blocks were barely a foot wide, while others were as wide as five feet.

Now that I'm medicated, I still count steps, but I don't get anxious if I mess up.

I'd refuse to take medication against that. However I don't get really anxious if I violate my own made up rules :)

The medication is actually for depression, but it has the fortunate added bonus of reducing my anxiety. Given that I've had points in my life where my anxiety made it very difficult to function on a day-to-day basis, this is a very good thing.

I do that. I step on the red tiles instead of the white one. lol.

Yes, sometimes, when walking on sidewalk with big tiles (about 3-4 normal steps), I would try not to step on the lines and will adjust my steps accordingly so that the footsteps will be ~ constant... #-o And other time, I won't care. :D

No I make sure that I don't step on anything wet because I'll slip with flip flops on D: it happens a lot

Yeah when I was younger I used to do that.

Step on a line, you break your spine
Step on a crack you break your back

HAHA. We used to say that at school all the time.

i make patterns. but only when im not in a hurry to get to class

My only rule is to scuttle across them at speed if it's cold and I'm barefoot.

Otherwise, I just tend to count them as I go. /rain man

Wow, I knew I wasn't the only one with OCD but who knew there were so many.

Lol I've been caught many times, especially by my bf but sometimes by strangers, counting tiles, only stepping on certain ones etc.

Luckily it won't cause me too much anxiety, but I don't forget easily if I don't finish. Two weeks later I may still think (I didn't finish stepping through that "column" of tiles, that type of thing). Generally counting is my issue though. If I start counting I do get a bit anxious (though not disfunctionally) if I don't get to finish.

Some manifestations of the obsessive, compulsive personality can also teach the rest of us that skipping across a tiled floor, is akin to a simple arithmetical formula that trains, the conscious mind to exercise its awareness of its peculiar way of crossing a tiled floor. :D
