When you're sick, how long do you wait before you see a doctor?

I know I have something but I don't want to waste my whole day sitting in the emergency room waiting to see a doctor. I made an appointment with my primary doctor but it's not until the middle of October.

It depends upon the symptoms. A high persistent fever with vomiting and pains in the chest could be pancreatitis, which can lead to death pretty fast.
An altered mental state could be a stroke. I had a mild stroke a few years ago, I had been ignoring the prior TIA'S that occurred.

I hate going to a doctor or hospital, I put it off as long as I can, still, I am open for a run to the ER or doctor if I feel it might be life threatening.

Then I can assume your matter is not urgent?

I don't think it is. I feel no pain, I don't think I have a fever, no trouble swallowing. I just have some red spots on the roof of my mouth and around my uvula. I may have some blisters on the side of my tongue.

Did you check to see if your clinic has another doctor who will see you on short notice and did you tell the receptionist you were unwell?

If it's the sort of thing rest, time and/or inactivity will cure, I don't go at all. I just stay in bad until it's over.

I'll go see my doctor if it's something unusual, or if it won't go away. I've seen my doctor about weird lumps on my body, or coughs I couldn't seem to shake. If I seem to be getting worse to the point that I wonder if something is really wrong, I'll see the doctor (or, if I'm getting worse quickly, the ER). I've been to the ER three, and each time, the major problem was dehydration. So if I'm feeling poorly, I'll try to rehydrate myself. Once, I wasn't able to keep up with the fluids I was losing, so off to the ER I went. :)

Yes if it's something serious I will go to the ER asap.

Of course. I told them I want the earliest appointment available with any available doctor. They told me to call every afternoon to check for any cancelled appointments.

I think I drink more than enough water. I'm going to give myself until the end of next week and if I don't improve ad I haven't seen the doctor then I'll go to the ER.

Until I can afford it. I don't have insurance and I'll be damned if I pay thousands of bucks for something I can fix at home - already did that once in my life for a sore throat that was stopping me from breathing(and that, yay, couldn't be fixed anyway), and that, while necessary, made me promise myself to never step foot in an ER again without a REAL reason.

I guess it would depend on what I thought was wrong with me. As it is, it's over 10 years since I went anywhere near a doctor.

Depends on the symptoms, if it's a cold, I usually waited for two days before seeing doctor

How true.

Cold symptoms? Headache, nasal congestion, low fever (under 101) I'll just stay in bed. Lots of liquids and Tylenol. Doctors can't do much for the common cold - which is usually viral. No big deal.

A couple of weeks ago, I was pissing blood. Went directly to the ER... I didn't pass GO, I didn't collect $200.

Try a salt water gargle...mix a teaspoon of table salt in a little water, and swill around your mouth for two minutes, gargle then spit out....do this three times daily after meals for 7 days.. report back to us....your condition improved, or otherwise.

Oh right the update. Well I gargled with salt water almost everyday. I don't know if that helped but whatever I had was gone a week or so after my last post.

Depends on how sick you are. If you can live with your symptoms and they aren't symptoms of something serious like chest pain, then I would usually wait at least a week.

You sure its not an allergy? I was allergic to some mouth washes that made my mouth burn and sometimes leave blisters.

Pull your pants down immediately! We need to take your temperature!

If you neglect yourself that way, you might not see your 90's.
If we have a cold and go to the doctor our cold will last about a week to 10 days, those to whom we expose the virus in the doctors office have a good chance of getting it as does the doctor. However he will probably give us an anti biotic that will have no effect on the virus.
If we don't go to the doctor our cold will last about a week to 10 days, unless we see signs of a secondary bacterial sinus infection (ugly yellow dark discharge) a cold is no reason to see a doctor, provided that we don't have health issues such as an impaired immune
system or pulmonary trouble.
So, I am with you, doctors see little of me.
