Where do u bank??

Credit union. I like the atmosphere with the ones I deal with as they have a more local feel. The banks I have had to deal with are pretty cold and have a charge for every thing done.

Credit union. They are not "fee happy" like the banks, always had free checking and don't make a federal case over getting something as simple as a credit card, like the banks do. I realize the banks are more subject to federal regulation but that is what makes them so customer-UNfriendly. Over the years I grew to hate the banks. If you're in the U.S. I guess it depends on your state usury laws as to how "fee happy" they are. I just got tired of all the fees and hidden fees and hassles on nearly everything banks do.

At what used to be a local California bank associated with stagecoaches and is now all over the U.S. Had my first account when I was 5 years old. Grandpa walked me to the bank to deposit a nickel.

I bank at Chase too. A little miffed at them. I had no clue they charged for moving money out of your savings account 6 times in one month.

I try to avoid all large banks, but the small local ones seem to get eaten up by larger ones. My brother uses a credit union at work, and so he gets interest and has no charges.

I opened my first account in California at Hibernia Bank in San Francisco - the bank that Patty Hearst robbed. I opened my account there because they were located at 18th and Castro and had the cutest customers waiting in line, and so I could cruise while I was at the bank. They were then taken over by Rainer Bank in Seattle, which was then taken over by Security Pacific. That was still okay, but then Security Pacific was taken over by Bank of America after I had moved to Los Angeles, and then I started having problems big time. I went in to complain so many times that a B of A employee told me that it would be better for me to move my account to another bank. He realized that once you start having problems with B of A, they spiral out of control. So I moved my account to Union Bank because that was the bank that my employer used, and I felt that that would prevent holds being put on checks that I deposited. B of A had been putting a week's hold on my payroll checks, which I thought was excessive, and they charged for everything. Union Bank was not too bad - at least there were no holds on the checks, but they charged $9 a month for service charge.

When I started my own business, I opened a business account at Marina Bank, a small neighborhood bank not far from my house. The person in charge of my account was an extremely handsome man from Brazil who had dark brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. He was also extremely friendly with me and was unmarried. Once I had him translate a recipe that I had found on a bag of something from the Brazilian market from Portuguese to English. When I bought the bag, I asked the woman at the market if she spoke Portuguese so that she could translate it for me, and she said yes, but as it turned out, she did not speak enough English to know the English equivalents.

After a while, I closed my account at Union Bank, and then Marina Bank was taken over by U.S. Bank, but I still get good service, although the Brazilian man is no longer there :(. I have no service charge, and all I have to buy is checks.

I have accounts in hundreds of banks all over Canada and the United States. They keep sending me Emails that I must update my information.

I use 3 banks:
work credit union,
local credit union
bank that I have had an account with since I was 11 (but this bank has changed names 3 times).

Under my mattress ( in other words- it really isn't anyones business)

.........

Bank of America.

Mostly for the Alaska Air miles, partly because they're not much worse than the others....

I bank at several banks and a credit union.

One is a locally based institution which had taken over several other locally based banks.

The other bank is a worldwide banking concern, already mentioned in this thread by another Jubber. This bank is based in London. They were wonderful when they were a locally owned bank, and they still are wonderful, pretty much continuing to operate with the same policies as when they were a Western NY-owned concern. This bank is (literally) around the corner from where I live, and I constantly use the ATM here.

I recently left another mega-bank listed here because I found them to be cold, impersonal, and heavy on the fees. They are not consumer friendly.

I also maintain a small account with a credit union attached to a school district that I used to work for, prior to my present district.

I bank at one of the Big Five.

Those being:

* Royal Bank of Canada (RBC Financial Group)
* Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD Bank Financial Group)
* Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank)
* Bank of Montreal (BMO Financial Group)
* Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC)

I have been thinking of moving to a credit union.

Gery, that reminds me of the way to remember all four banks located on the corner of King and Bay Streets in Toronto.....MINT!

M is for Bank of Montreal
I is for CIBC
N is for Scotiabank
T is for Toronto-Dominion Bank

Apologies to Toronto Jubbers if I have the wrong intersection with Bay. But I am one Yank who definitely knows that Bay Street is the financial and legal centre of Toronto! :D
