  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Where is the worst place you have ever lived?

Where I live now. A small redneck town in the middle of nowhere in the Southwest.
Flat as a pancake, hot as hell in the summer, not much to do, other than go to the gym.
People here are in a time warp. In their minds, Trump reigns supreme and the only thing worse than a "Yankee carpetbagger" is a liberal.
When one woman at work first met me, she immediately asked "Where do you worship, boy?"
I wanted to answer "Between the legs of a hot guy!", but knew better.

If I take in to consideration the neighbors that I have had to deal with there is no doubt that a small suburb that borders on Detroit had the most vile, ignorant asshole rednecks that I have ever encountered. They made fun of my wife because she has C.P.
They allowed and even encouraged their children to tease her while I was at work. The cops were for the most part dumb thugs. The city gradually changed because it had older homes that young professionals had a romance with. I was so glad to get the hell away from ignorant unlearned rednecks. I have never had a mean word said about my wife in the mobile home community where we have lived for the past 8 years. I am glad to have left the trash where it belongs.

I've had my share of shit holes to live in, but I always tried to make the best of it. I spent 5 weeks in Kosovo before the UN set up camp and lost my translator/driver. (He was shot in front of me.)

As someone who is used to living in the very epicenter of big cities, and who likes to visit the remotest country villages, the neither-fish-nor-flesh feel of a suburb is the worst possible option to me. And yet I did spend more than a year (that is, two summers) in Oeiras, a suburb of Lisbon, Portugal.

It was next to a library, and less than a five minute walk from the beach, the indoor swimming pool and the streetcar stop (Linha de Cascais), which is why I chose the place. Yet it felt so suburban, so anonymous and isolated. In city centers, people know the other residents from the tourists. New residents know everybody within two weeks. On this beach, I would see the same boys surfing at the same times as me, without knowing if they lived there or went to the local school or both. I found myself going to Lisbon five days a week, even for grocery shopping.

^ Yes, they're terrible. Too far from the city to commute without grief, too close not to be expensive and not have lack of parking space or crime. Sleep cities... we used to call them in The Netherlands.

I once lived in a terrible bedsit in an otherwise empty house.
The landlord decided to convert it into flats to sell.
I was served with an eviction notice but he was not prepare to wait for me to leave.
I woke up one morning to discover that he had removed the bathroom and toilet in order to force me out.

Did you file a complaint?
