OK, If any a y'all are looking for something to do, I found a terrific site that breaks down same-sex couples by location, according to the 2000 census. That was the first year the Census Bureau asked people if they were in a same-sex couple.

http://www.gaydemographics.org/USA/2000Census_Gay_state.htm

The site has lots of charts and maps, I had a great time perusing it. It breaks the figures down by county and zipcode too.

So what's the gayest zipcode in the US? They don't actually say, but the gayest one in California is Castro/Noe Valley, where 32% of all couples are same-sex (no surprise there). Gayest in Florida (among zipcodes that have at least 50 couples) is 33305, Ft. Lauderdale, again no surprise.

But did you know there were 12 same-sex couples in Box Elder, Montana (out of a total population of 2901)? I call that representing.

Iowa had 3,698 couples, but that was in 2000. It's gotta be higher by now. That could be a lot of marriages.

Anyway -- enjoy...

That was interesting. There is at least 24 gay couples in an area with hardly any people in my state. Now I want to know why the hell would they live there?

^^^I have a feeling that there are a lot more gay couples out in the sticks than people realize. Maybe they just want to have a life of their own, and some privacy. No neighbors to give you dirty looks.

Not so sure about gay singles though, but the census didn't ask about that. Maybe they will in 2010?

Can't wait to see the 2010 results

I read somewhere that Wisconsin has the fastest growing gay population, but I can't find the source now...

Interesting... it says there are 2 gay couples in the county we live in... wonder who the other couple is???
