... suitable for video editing ?
Which model ... etc ?

Thanks. :)

It's not so much where to buy it (Internet is probably a good place) as it is which to buy.

If it were me, I'd wait for Intel's new Arrandale processors to come out. Pretty much everything on the market has been Core 2 Duo and this will be a major switch.

Do you already use a Mac or PC? Which video editing software are you planning to use, or do you have any plans in that direction? If you are already familiar with a video suite on a PC and want more horsepower, there could be something to be said for sticking with a PC. If it were me I'd go with a MacBook Pro after the next update which should be fairly soon.

Will stick with PC using CS4.
Quad core laptop maybe good enough ?

If you can afford it, I would highly recommend a macbook pro. For video editing, your best bet would be the 15'. You could always add more memory/ bigger HDD later.

It's such a pleasure to work with Apple products. There's this simplicity yet professionalism about all their products that allow your work to flow smoothly. It's a dream :).

mac is too proud, therefore i don't like to use their products ...

I never have ipod, iphone ... etc.

Enjoy your Windows Hell, then. Though I hear Windows 7 is superior to any other Windows and CS4 will run on it. You might consider 64-bit OS too. Premier Pro apparently runs fast on 64-bit. Look for Intel Core 2 Duo's and higher as they are 64-bit capable. Look for non-integrated video. Dell or Gateway (yes, Gateway) will offer the most power for the buck. Avoid HP. They've gone into the disposable laptop market it seems.

Still, I'd say buy a Mac if you want the best laptop. I've supported PC's for nearly 20 years (and still do) but I won't use one for myself. Stopped about 5 years ago.

ok thanks, i might try mac then. :)

it's not that mac's are too proud. I was a staunch pc user for so long... you could call me a broke college student. During school the best decision I made was to buy a macbook pro with some extra money I had... even though I didn't have a job.

I LOVE my macbook. Nuff said :).

Haha, I'm the same way. Often I wish that whoever invented the ipod hadn't so that Apple could have had its proper death a long time ago. Sadly it still hangs on.

win7 > snowleopard
droid > iphone
Zune > ipod
:D

the problem with mac is, if i have a probem i can only go to one shop hence zero competition which i hate.

For pc, i can go to hundreds of shops for support.

My personal favorite site for anything computer or electronic related is newegg.com. Absolutely amazing site and far cheaper than you will find in a store like bestbuy.

I'll recommend either Apple or Asus. Apple has good quality products, just install Win7 (professional 64 bit) if you want to stay windows and use your copy of CS4. Asus is known for quality and their laptops are of no exception.

NEVER buy Gateway (made by Acer) unless you can buy an extended warranty through the store that you bought it from. I've had nightmares with mine. I'm on my 3rd HD, 2nd DVDRW, and 2nd screen if that is any indication. Though not everyone with my model had major problems. Just, when you get a lemon, you don't wont the lemon to be from Gateway.

I've never seen people have too many problems with HP's or Toshiba's, just get the extended warranty.

Dell seems to be stepping up their game, and most people I know don't seem have problems with theirs, I just personally would not recommend them.

I would recommend going to a brick and mortar store to buy it, it's allot easier to return if something happens, also, get the extended warranty you'll have less hassles then what I went through.

Hope that help, I would add links to stores, but I don't know of any where you live.

Telstra, I also strongly recommend Mac products if video is a primary requirement. If you PM me I can assist you in getting a 10% discount off retail, just by shopping around. You might want to look at refurbished or discontinued models if you want to keep the cost down further.

There are lots of places to buy Macs from in Sydney. In the CBD alone: The Apple Store, NextByte, Myer, David Jones, JB Hifi (x3), Dick Smith, PowerMedia, MacCentric - and that's just off the top of my head. There are at least 3 authorised Mac repairers in the CBD too.

I can also advise you in the cross-grading of your Adobe software (so long as you have a legitimate license).

Yep. Barely breathing.

Prior to the ipod, apple should have been left for dead. Sadly now every person flocks for the i*wtf ever* just because it has a cute little "i" in front of it.

I do loads of video editing and I do it on a desktop and a laptop

A mac book pro is ace with final cut works well :)

Just make sure the desktop/laptop has a Firewire port, because apparently some video editing guys still think it's needed.

I just switched to a Mac a couple of months ago have never used one before. I'm hooked and shan't be returning to Windows. I got a MacBook Pro. Expensive but worth it. And it's sexy:)
