This is the reason I decide to not make my citizenship of ameirca. My brother Andreus would be very angry but I see the teabag and the ugly racial signs in greek news. This is a graet shame for Ameirca. I donot want to have people think I am this way on busness travels in Europe. I ask a month ago for a british english teacher from my family so I willnot sound amiercan and feel unsafe when I am traveling.

The world looks close at this actions now and waiting for a person to say against it within ameirca. Not even the press say its wrong even if prejudice is illegal in Ameirca.

One thing I've learned about apologies is that you can never force anyone to apologize to a level that you're satisfied with. If they aren't sincere to begin with, then what's the point.

Also, people don't seem to know how to apologize. It's easy:

"I apologize for......." end of story. No "but for" clause, no excuses, no other trite or patronizing explanations. Hardly ever happens that way.

An apology is just a conciliatory gesture, not a punitive one. It's ultimately up to the affronted individual to let it go and put the matter to rest. But that usually never happens either, does it?

That is not the legal idea Ameirca held to the Nazi party of germany. I think we must have diferent history books. In that time all germans and all party member were convicted of hitler war crime. Has ameircan law been redone so fast?

I agree that if the GOP concurs with the racist comments, directed at the First Lady, they shouldn't apologize -- they should say , "HE'S RIGHT! We too are sure the gorilla is "just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless."

No, no, this is too much of a stretch. How about upholding a higher standard? The GOP is no more culpable at this time than CBS was in the Letterman flap. The GOP didn't make a statement eqating Michelle to a gorilla anymore than CBS advocated rape (not that the word was even used by Letterman)....

You can't put words in their mouth, hold them accountable, expect an apology then be upset when they resist.

DePass accountable: Yes. GOP accountable: No.

First, let me say how much I respected your brother. Andreus was a good man and a proud, intelligent, passionate liberal. I miss his posts (I've been around JUB since 2004).

Why is this sort of racism -- this ugly race-baiting allowed to happen? Because the Republican Party and its members are racists, it would seem. I mean, their hero, WWII service-avoider Ronnie Reagan used to throw red meat to his Republicans ball-lickers with terms like "Welfare Queen." Scratch a Republican and you'll almost ALWAYS find a racist.
