Apparently, she stands in favor of evolution since Mr. DePass tried to cover his ass with the lame excuse that the joke was taken from statements made by Michelle Obama about humans being descended from apes. For now, no such comments from Michelle Obama have been found.

However, the stupidity of the SC GOP does not stop there. In reply to the scandal, Eric Davis, the current chairman of the Richland County Republicans defended Mr. DePass:

Actually I broke down he details of the supposed "joke" and applyed legal statue as to why it was inappropriate. The fact that you can't get over your hate for Gov. Palin and wrap your mind around it, dosen't change the FACTS about it. Hypothetical situation or not.

Again get over the fact that is was Gov Palin, it was a woman defending her 14 year old daughter from a rape joke. It's not political, it's not a case of win/win.

Certainly she is not. I have served this country along side so many diverse people. I understand what truly makes us great. There are so many things you can do. You can change one persons destiny however "you can not breast feed the world"

America is not like the EU and will never be like the EU. We think of things in different ways and have some differences in values.

This person, wrong for what he said, has the right to say it. And now he is feeling the backlash that comes with saying such a comment. No one is agreeing with his statement for a second, only you seem to feel that we are.

You forget that there is a black man as our president. The leader of the free world is black, and he is America. We have fought long and hard to end prejudice and segregation in our country, and it is still a fighting battle.

But Europe is not clean of discrimination and prejudice either. One only needs to look at Eastern Europe, and even parts of Southern and Northern Europe to see prejudice is still alive and well in Europe.

Everyone citizen in America is American. No matter what background, they contribute to the country and society and reap from the benefits they have, and struggle with the benefits they don't. We believe diversity, and differences make us stronger.

The Republican party is riddled when racism and bigotry. How many times have we seen this shit from the Repugs? It seems like a daily occurrence. The Repugs always come up with the same excuse, "It was only one guy." But they are all coming from the same party.

Maybe the Reugs will keep offending enough people, there will not be any Republican party left.

As I said before, people make jokes about killing nuns and babies. It doesn't mean that they're saying killing nuns and babies is OK and that the jokes need to be subject to over-reaching legal scrutiny and political correctness. That's really the point.

The New York Penal Code on rape is irrelevant to hypothetical, unevidenced and presumed guilty facts of a joke and certainly doesn't override a First Amendment right to make it.

If a joke involves yelling fire in a crowded room or is otherwise outside the protection of the First Amendment, it's a different story. But, if it's protected speech, anyone is free to make what jokes they want and respond to any calls for apologies as they see fit.

Those principles apply equally to the Palin and the Michelle Obama joke.

I'm not calling for an apology here or there. I don't believe free speech should be chilled by calling for apologies on politically incorrect jokes that clearly have absolutely no factual foundation.

As other websites are pointing out, Palin, and her supporters, had no problem before, during or after her appearance on Saturday Night Live, which included jokes about incestuous statutory rape of her daughters.



The Michelle Obama joke is offense hate speech, but recognizing and reacting to it as such is hardly on a par with the whole statutory rape outrage, which as the SNL clip evidences, is a complete scam.

The first ammendment was designed to protect speech against the establishment/government NOT to protect slander of a sexual nature against a minor.

When dealing with minors rights are and should be different. An adult, for example, may wish to make a statement of speech by posting an animated video of children having sex. NOT OK! So why should Letterman be able to talk about an adult raping a child especially on television that is broadcast on a infastructure that is, in part, supported by federal funds.

Because satire and parody are constitutionally protected speech.

But, of course, especially to anyone listening at the time, raping a child and which of Palin's daughters was involved, wasn't what the joke was about. It was about Rodriguez' allegedly rampant sexuality and the inability of a sexual moralist, like Palin, to keep her own daughter from becoming an unwed mother. Few viewers would have known that Palin was even at the game and, even less, and with which daughter, if any.

It only became more than that, when the Palin and her posse got their teeth in it as a good way of sparking up the anti-sex and anti-gay mob, who support her.

I doubt whether Michele Obama would be happy to appear on a show that tried to link her to a gorilla. Yet Palin had no problem appearing on SNL, and being associated with, its incest and underage daughter rape jokes and now suddenly they're are problem.

Shouldn't Palin be calling on herself for an apology? LOL.
