Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

The egg came first since eggs existed in history long before chickens. But the first chicken that existed must have come from an egg laid by something that really wasn't a chicken exactly so the egg also came first in that case. Conclusion - the egg came first since it is impossible to show the chicken came first and to give two arguements for it.

The question doesn't ask whether it was CHICKEN EGGS or chickens that came first. The question only asks about "the egg" - which could, in fact, be cockroach eggs from 300 million years ago.

Long before chickens appeared.

No, I don't subscribe to the belief that there was nothing 7,000 years ago...

My thoughts exactly when I really put my mind to it. And I'm pretty baked right now too!!

The egg came first.

Evolution. The close relative of the chicken would have laid an egg that contained the modern-day chicken.

My post is right and your post is wrong. Just admit defeat and accept this post.

The chicken's ancestor laid eggs, and the birds inside had certain mutations that proved to be viable, and so the chicken evolved over time... but the egg came first.
