Now that the Iraq war is winding down, it's the opinion of Colonel Andrew Bacevich (Ret.) who has written books on the new American militarism, that we will simply invade / attack / provoke another war. Frankly, I think he's right. Many others agree with him.

What do you think? Do you think he's "all wet"? Or do you think he's right? And if so, which country will the USA attack next? Iran? North Korea? Some other craphole that benefits no American?

Well man. very interesting comment you made ^..

There is no new American militarism.. after WWII the USA sort of had to be the safeguard of the free world.
but times have changed.

And if Iran gets a nuke then I'd support the USA or Israel in bombing the hell out of them.
After all, the government in Iran has stated publicly that Israel has not right to exist.
And if North Korea keeps up with their war talk, well then I think that the UN should keep them from threateing their neighbors..

Let us say there was no USA armed forces to stop Sadam Hussein from invading Kuwait in the late 80's.. what do you think would have happend to that small country?

How about Korea in the early 50's.. would you wish the South Korea would have been over run by the North Koreans? that was a UN deal, but mainly the USA took the brunt of the fight.. over 36,000 US soldiers lost thier lives defending that country man.. and today, South Korea is free and democratic..
What aobut North Korea?

In June 1967, five Arab countries invaded the small country of Israel.. the USA helped support that country.. The only country in the Middle East that is a democracy.. That small country survived due to the support of the USA.

The USA will attact no country that does not threaten neighboring countries or the US itself..

The US has almost bankrupted itself with the war in Iraq.

While the military industrial complex has lots of new toys they'd like the American taxpayer to buy and blow up and buy and blow up and buy and blow up instead of putting the money toward universal healthcare, education and domestic infrastructure, I'm not sure that the American people are in the mood to live through the needless death of more of their sons and daughters, the senseless slaughter of even more innocent people in the mid-east (tonyboy apparently excepted) or an era of privation and austerity, because there's not likely to be another chance to have the Chinese finance another disastrous American military incursion anytime soon.

Newt Gingrich has been advocating a US attack on North Korea and Iran. It won't happen under Obama, absent either of those countries doing something extreme. Even were a Republican to get elected, however, I don't think Americans are in the mood for another war.

Perhaps. However, I watched Americans with my own eyes sup the garbage that the Bush Administration spun on Iraq, and they were in full support of it. We know Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, yet there we are some 8+ years later. The American electorate are dumb as posts, and will fall for it again, and again, and again.

Without looking it up, can you remember why the USA went into Panama, Grenada, or the scandal in Nicaragua? If you can't remember, was it really all that vital to the USA's interests? Or folly?

The problem is, there are a lot of people in industry who understand all too clearly that massive destruction is apparently necessary to move the economy.

American households can only absorb so many appliances and cars to throw out 5 years later. World War II taught the west that for a real goose to the American bottom line, you need to blow shit up.

Have you ever wondered what percentage of the US economy is directly or indirectly involved in war games?

Has anyone remembered how much a bunker buster costs and what kind of job creation it represents in all kinds of congressional districts?

It must be clear by now that 9/11 was the necessary pretext to the Bush doctrine. The fact that it didn't lead to where the pentagon and the administration and Halliburton wanted only delayed the inevitable.

Even now, I'll bet there are millions of people in the US who bought and still believe all the lies leading up to the invasion of Iraq. And who would do it again if the media told them to.

If Iran gets bombed, I would suppose Israel would do that, the US will help. However, I hope they only bomb the nuclear sites. The Iranians are not to blame for what the leaders do. They like us anyway.

Are Americans so naive that they think the Iranians would tolerate a military strike by the US?

I like the US too, but if it bombed anything in my country, it might just make me somewhat cross.

news report says American infrastructure are crumbling down.

Why don't they concentrate on that instead?

Looks like the Obama Administration is going internal. Is an attack on Arizona in the future?

May sound crazy but state's rights issues vs. the federal government seems to be the focus of this admin.

We'll find out if a Republicans ever gets appointed President again by the Supreme Court.

War is good business.

one country should have a uniform law.
State rights are just red tapes and waste of money.

I don't think Afghanistan is winding down. I think we will be there for awhile. Somalia looks like the new hotspot, but if we get a Republican President, who knows what will happen.

America will not engage in preemptive warfare anytime in the future.

So the better question may be, who will attack america next? If that is the question, I would place bets on Korea. Somalia will remain ignored because there is no government there, and to attack it is to own it.

we simply can't afford that.

I would bet that after the Vietnam, Iraq and Aghanistan debacles, the US will begin to rely more on the type of war that Powell and Bush one engaged in: By air and by drone, and with little to no boots on the ground.

McCain clearly stated on more than one occasion and recently, that if he were president he would have used a military sollution in Iran by now.

what does McCain have to do with anything?

in any event, candidate Obama also stated on more than one occasion that he'd close Guantanamo, end the use of extreme interrogation and renditions, and have talks with Iranian and North Korean leaders without preconditions, but things look different when you're sitting behind the Resolute Desk.

quantanamo is in process, Torture is now illegal in the USA, thank god I can travel without being ashamed of what nation I am from, and Clinton AND Obama offered an open hand and new beginning to both Iran and Korea.

McCain is valid because it is where we would now be if he head become president as the republicans had wanted him to be. Deeper in to a depression by now and in three wars, not two.

And lets not forget hat these are still our choices as we head into the mid term ellections.

They offered an open hand? You actually think things are going well with North Korea and Iran?

Obama isn't going to close Guantanamo anytime soon. It was just a phony campaign promise. What's he waiting for? He hasn't a clue what to do with the people who are there. American's don't want them here.

And how exactly is the World treating us different from when Bush was President?

Don't bother trying to talk sense into them. They believe any buckling down on illegal-immigration is racially motivated.

do you intentionally misread and then reinterpret everything for the sake of annoyance or do you honestly just not understand what is being said?

This is exactly the next (or present) focus of attack by the Obama Administration. Guess once you get the rat in the corner He attacks.
