i was watching a bit of it today...it was right when they had made the cast change to will ferrell, ana gastayer, and chris Kattan. I had forgotten how funny they were!! I hate the current era now, but it got me thinking...which era do you think is the best?

Not ready for primetime, by far. The newer stuff is ok but they were at their best during the first 3 or 4 years.

By far, the Not Ready for Prime Time Players era.

It was honest comedy which didn't rely on stupidity for its humour.

To me, it's comparable to the comedy of The Andy Griffith Show (which made me laugh) and Married With Children (which made me puke).

Many of these "eras" overlapped. So I liked most the period with Hartman (who was the best), Carvey, Myers, Farley, Hooks, Spade, Sweeney, Gastayer, Sandler

Early 2000s.

And old episodes are always going to look better upon rewatching, considering that they cut out all of the unsuccessful sketches, or even entire episodes. As much as people enjoy being nostalgic and claiming that the mid-70s or the early 90s were the best era for SNL, if they actually went back and watched a complete, unedited season, they'd see that they're really no better than what's on the air today.

I think the original era is the best, but I really enjoy the current cast. Kristen Wiig is the funniest female cast member since Gilda Radner.

what movie is that? is that her character from weekend update? thats funny!!

I actually bought the first season and was a little dissapointed because i was expecting amazing stuff that everybody hypes it up to be...but after time passed and i watched again i got it...they were some bad ass mother fuckers!! except Chevy, he was hit and miss to me....

I liked the pre-modern show. Cheri Oteri was my absolute favorite cast member of all time. Will Ferral, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer were all great too.

Gilda and Murray were great, but i will always love the weirdness of Will Ferrel and Molly Shannon. They were so funny! and i love Oteri, Gastayer, Kattan, etc.

I voted for pre-modern. The days of Cheri Oteri and Molly Shannon are my fav.

It's OK now with Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler.

Oh, and Target lady.

First few seasons. Nobody could make playing straight interesting the way Jane Curtain did. And Gilda Radner's my hero.

Another clip from the video posted above:

I actually like the current season's cast.

It's been on it's way down for a long while now but I love Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.
Plus: Wonderful Jimmy Fallon

The original cast members were the best group, BUT Phil Hartman was the most consistantly funny and talented cast member of all.

Volcom that is very true. in 5 years from now we will look back and now and say "that was when it was best" even though its pretty obvious right now that it is not.

yeah for me nothing compares to the days of cheri oteri, will ferrell, molly shannon, chris kattan. they were all brilliant.
