Is there any truth to stereotype that most gay men are mamma's boys?

Growing up I was closest to my older sister.

Now, I'm closest to my Mom.

Never been close to my mother. She's a prescription drug abuser, alcoholic, and just generally crazy. Haven't seen the old hag in years. Wasn't close to my dad either, until very recently (my parents were married for like 5 minutes in the late '70s), but now we're thick as thieves and it's pretty great.

Probably my aunt Lisa.

All of my family is pretty laid back and cool, but my aunt is probably the most of them all.

A gay stereotype that fits me perfectly! :gogirl:

My mother is amazing. She is so compassionate, caring and open. I can talk to her about anything. I don't associate with my father, and my relationships with my brothers are almost entirely based upon disputation and banter. I've never met any of my extended family, but reports say that they're bigoted and racist, so I don't particularly want to.

I'm happy just being a Mama's boy for now.

:D

Statistical analysis so far at 21 votes.

For the stereotype to be SOLIDLY true, the mom needs at least 70-85 % of votes.

For the stereotype to have ANY truth , moms need 51% of the votes.

As of 21 votes total, moms only garnered 28% of the votes.

I used to be close with my mother. Ever since I got sick and my mother turned from a loving and caring person into a fierce yet doting telepathic bodyguard, I became closer with my sister.

Not that I hate her; I just need my own self free at times...

Sadly, no one. My parents and grandparents are all dead. I rarely see my siblings.

It's hard for me to pick just one that I'm closest too. I'm very close with all of them for different reasons..

Not for nothing, but you ran a similar poll when you asked us who our best friend was and were shocked when most of the answers were "straight male." So I wouldn't be shocked when the stereotype falls flat here as well. ;)

I don't think that moms will ever get the 51% percent of votes needed.

The sister and the mom are neck and neck.

My mother is the light to my star. I love my mother with all my heart, she is my best friend.

Mom. We talk almost everyday.

My Dad was a close second but he passed away a couple years ago.

I guess I'm still a mama's boy. I still like to bask when she talks to me in a weird childish way. ;] Being the youngest. Oh yeah!

No one. I'm out to everyone in my family, all my friends, co-workers, everythang.

Statistical Analysis at 45 votes.

The stereo that "most gay men are mama's boys" isNot true.

After 45 votes , never once did mom get an outright majority (as implied by the stereotype) 70-80%.

Never once did mom get a technical majority of 51%.
