Which is the Best Printer Brand to Buy for Home Office

I think my Epson Stylus printer is a piece of shit! There are lines through the text, magenta and yellow are not printing at all even though there is ink in the wells.

I have done the cleaning cycle several times, but the problem is still there.

So, I am thinking of taking advantage of the Labor Day Sales to purchase another printer for my home office. I do NOT want another Epson.

Which printer brand do you recommend for a home office?

If you are thinking about ink jet printers (and you use only Windows or Mac), consider the Kodak "EasyShare" models.

Most ink jet manufacturers sell you the printer cheap, but then rape you on the cost of cartridges. The Kodak ink jets are slightly more expensive, but the cartridges are cheap. That's less than half the cost of many competitors. It can save you money in the long run. And the print quality is superb. As you might expect from Kodak, these printers are especially good at printing photographs. And the dyes in the inks are claimed to be designed to remain vivid on paper for 100 years. (If you've seen an ink jet-printed photograph from a few years ago, then you know they typically fade to unrecognizable shadows quickly).

Regrettably, here are no drivers for Linux.

How much photo or color printing do you "need" to do? If you can get away with B&W, buy a laser printer.

I swear by Canon. My current printer is an i865. It is almost ten years old, and has never missed a beat, despite me using it almost daily. I recommend Canon to all my friends, and they generally have equally great success stories.

Here in Australia, at least, Canon ink tends to be a little cheaper than the other major brands. Don't be swayed by purchase price of the printer - the ink over several years will be more expensive. Research your local ink prices and choose the best value over time, rather than the cheapest model outright.

I brought a brother b/w laser printer from best buy for 49 dollars.

Be careful with Lexmark the ink is expensive

Hp is really good. we have the HP officejet 6500, and it's great.

individule ink packs and they last long time. Can put you memory cards for pic's and it's a all in one --scan/fax/copier/printer.. love this one...

I currently have a Cannon that I got on sale. I'm very happy with it.

I agree about Epson...(my last printer was an Epson) the most annoying printer I've ever tried to use. I will never buy an Epson again...never...never.

Totally Canon........ANY model.
My $60 several year old cheapy is still going strong and I am still in love with my Canon Pixma IP4300 AND.......Canon inks won't drive you into bankruptcy.
The IP4300, also a couple years old, is the only printer I ever had that calibrates itself to the monitor.

I have made my purchase of a new all-in-one color printer for my home office. You guys were a big help.

Thanks for pointing out the ink costs after the purchase. The Epson I used had high ink cost, but I just thought that was part of the cost of having a home office.

So, I purchased a Canon Pixma MX870 from Office Depot. I save about $50 buying it during the Labor Day sales.

This printer has individual cartridges for each color. The next model down has one cartridge for all colors except black.

According to PC World, "The pigment black (PGI-220) costs $15 and is specced to last for 324 pages, or 4.62 cents per page. The cyan, magenta, and yellow CLI-221 cartridges cost $13 each and should last for 510 to 535 pages each, which works out to about 2.5 cents per color per page; a page with all four colors would cost about 12.4 cents. The CLI-221 photo black will lasts for about 814 4-by-6-inch photos, by Canon's reckoning."

I hope this printer will last a long time. It took me about two years to wear out the Epson.
