Well, let's see.

(1) Fancy ring with a huge rock.
I am not into jewels and if anything I would like something small, so no.

(2) Huge fancy wedding.
Again I don't like showy stuff or big parties.

(3) New luxury car.
Who doesn’t like super cars. I'm sure I'd love to drive a Ferrari or a Pagani but I realize they would be of no use after a while... between taxes and country roads take me home to the place I belong.

(4) A trip to Hawaii
mmm-nah... don't like travelling or exotic vacations. There are beautiful beaches here and I'm a hillbilly.

I'm choosing option 3 just for the sake of it.
 
The first three are definitely not anything I want or need so option #4 wins....

...but I have been to Hawaii alot and it is was great in my 20s...I would rather drive 45 minutes and spend time in Monterey instead...so option #4 for me...

I would be too embarrassed to travel anywhere else in the world right now as an American....

I'd like to take the money from number 2, as neither of us have any interest in huge weddings, and put the great bulk of funds towards the house and its upkeep. Not that he's a boyfriend but we've already had those kinds of discussions. I don't really participate in "These are the monetary/financial options in our relationship, no discussions". Chucking that kind of cash around definitely involves talk.

I think plenty of non Americans get it, though. My friends in Turkey were so embarrassed during the election. But their Turkish friends merely reassured them: "We know just how you feel."
 
I'd go for the travel. He loves to travel and I should broaden my horizons. Probably not Hawaii though.
