Re: Which Protest Are You Going To Go To-Sat -Nov

My husband and I will be attending the rally in San Francisco, along with his sister and her wife. We are two of those 18,000+ couples whose marriages are in limbo since Prop 8 passed. I am so heartened by this. Thanks so much to all of you who are standing up for our right to marry--it makes my heart glad, when just a week ago I was feeling pretty sad indeed.
My sign will probably say SEPARATE IS NOT EQUAL,

Re: Which Protest Are You Going To Go To-Sat -Nov

Hmm...

The local organizers here where I'm at have recommended custom made signs which they will provide. They also recommended to stay away from the rainbow flag motif. They say it's too closely connected with gay pride events and they want to project a civil rights movement look.

I feel conflicted. Seems too much like playing nice with the straight people.

Thanks. I was not aware of that. I was going to bring a bunch of the pride flags with me. Hmmm....maybe I should go buy some american flags.

Possible Change Of My Plans:

I think that I'm going to the Los Angeles one. My neighbor rents a monthly parking space in the downtown so parking will not be a problem for us. And dkonfrost has a lot of friends going to the downtown one.

Re: Which Protest Are You Going To Go To-Sat -Nov

Well, these recommendations are from the organizers for the local event here. I don't know how it will work for other area events.

There is another event in town later in the evening. They will have pride flags out on display. ..|

Well, we do need more straight people on our side and i think that they can relate more to the american flag that the pride flag. And now that Bush is going bye bye....I can be an American again. (dual citizen) ;)

Re: Which Protest Are You Going To Go To-Sat -Nov

I'm going to the Pasadena one and then take the gold line down to union station at some point. :]

JoinTheImpact.com Mission Statement

In an effort to make a positive impact in the lives of our community, our allies, and even our opposition, JoinTheImpact.com emerged. Our movement seeks to encourage the LGBTQ community not to look towards the past and place blame, but instead to look forward toward what needs to be done now to achieve one goal: Full equality for ALL. We stand for reaching out across all communities. We do not stand for bigotry, for scapegoating, or using anger as our driving force. Our mission is to encourage our community to engage our opposition in a conversation about full equality and to do this with respect, dignity, and an attitude of outreach and education. JoinTheImpact, as an entity, will not encourage divisiveness, violence, or disrespect of others and we do not approve of this. We do not stand for pointing the finger at one group and placing blame. The LGBTQ community comes in all different colors, creeds, religious beliefs, and political parties. If we allow ourselves to place blame on one community or another, then we are no better than those who oppose us. We will not pit one community against another. At JoinTheImpact, we are all inclusive. As such, we will continue to encourage debate from all sides of the conversation provided it is civil and respectful. We will encourage our community to not let anger steer the conversation, but with an understanding that anger is a human reaction and we hope that it can be used as a catalyst toward positive change. Finally, we stand for national unity in the face of opposing forces that have steered the conversation into a state by state issue. We will celebrate our state by state wins, but work as one large entity to help gain these wins and will unite in the conversation against us to plant the seed of change and community.

Sincerely,
The JoinTheImpact Team

Re: Which Protest Are You Going To Go To-Sat -Nov

Albany, New York

This is NOT the time or the place for any of the attention-whores in our community to make one of their typically inappropriate appearances.

Hopefully, we won't have our message ignored because some asshole in sequined crotch-less panties decides to stuff a 12" dildo up his/her ass in front of the media.

Let's stay "On Message" for once...

Re: Which Protest Are You Going To Go To-Sat -Nov

I'm going to the one in DC at 1:30...I hope. The G-20 meet is right across the street from where I live and the place is like Fort Knox right now. I hope I can even get out of here!
