  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Which soap operas have you watched?

Yikes! The Neighbours theme was sung by men back then? How... quaint  During those 10 or so years I watched the show it was always sung by females.

...Aaaand now I've got the tune stuck in my head, great! :help:

Sir Ron boldly ventures into unklnown territory again.

Tonight I want to feature one of the longest running shows from across the pond, Coronation Street.

The show started on Britain's ITV network in 1960, and is still going strong. When As the World Turns ends in September, Coronation Sreet will be the longest running soap opera still broadcasting.

Forgive me in advance if I have included any fan made openings. I have never seen this show...

This is from the 1960's. It looks original...

Here is the opening from 1975...

This one is from 1987.....

This opening is from 1995. It is very short...

Here is an opening from 2002 (includes a Cadbury commercial!)

This is the new opening as of May 2010..... (from a June episode)

Thanks Ronboy! Damn, you know your soaps! As I said before I'm an ATWT newbie, but this Lucinda plot looks like it will be really intense when Lily finds out. Even moreso now that she's becoming attracted to Craig. Also, does anyone else find Mary Beth Evans kinda hot?

You are very welcome, bbjohn. I've been watching ATWT my entire life (46+ years), and I've seen a lot in that time.

Mary Beth Evans is the second actress to play Lucinda's daughter, Sierra. The first was Finn Carter, who looked more the part of a revolutionary's daughter from the fictional South American country of Montega. But you are right. She is pretty.

Here are two pics of Finn Carter as Sierra. One is a 1987 Soap Opera Digest cover with Scott Bryce as Craig Montgomery, and the other is a publicity photo with Carter, Bryce, and Peter Boynton as Sierra's slimy first love from Montega, the evil Tonio Reyes. (...and wasn't Scott Bryce really hot back in the day! hehehe!):D

I'm a big Scott Bryce fan. He brought a lot of layers to Craig Montgomery. When Craig first appeared on the scene, he was pure evil, tricking poor Betsy (Meg Ryan, no less) into marriage. But SB made Craig multi-layered, so you actually wanted him to reform , which he did when he and Sierra became a supercouple of the show. Hunt Block's Craig was a scene-stealer, byt he made Craig a Snidely Whiplash-type joke. I WANT to like Jon Lindstrom's Craig, but to be honest, he just bores me.

I'm with you, scrapple. Scott Bryce really rocked as Craig. And I, too, want to like Jon Lindstrom as Craig. I love Hunt Block...what a body...but I have to agree, he played Craig a little too mean.

Does anyone know who the guy in the red shirt is, at 26 seconds into this All My Children opening clip?

Sorry, my friend. Not being an AMC fan, I haven't a clue.

If someone does remember, I'd sure be interested in knowing too. :D

OMG!
I haven't heard that song in years!

That was at the height of the battle for the 3:00 eastern timeslot. Both GH and GL were really at their peak during the early 1980's. Both shows were jam packed with talent, compelling storylines, and edge-of-your seat action. Of course, I was a little biased towards Guiding Light , because that was my show, but looking back at this video (which I thought was rather well done) I remember how great General Hospital was too! :D

And even NBC was trying to compete in 1981 with Texas, described in a post above.

Three great shows to choose from back then. Now, GH is the only soap on at 3:00 PM eastern.

I forgot one

Back when I was in college, I watched General Hospital. That was during the "Luke and Laura" days.

Just found out that his name is David Rampal, played by Trent Bushey.

Mystery solved! Great job!

It's been a year since I've posted to this thread. For anyone new, go back through the pages and enjoy all of the great clips that everyone has posted.

And now to the next two soaps to bow out....All My Children and One Life to Live.

Let's start posting memorable moments, our memories and things we enjoyed (or hated) about them.

I didn't watch either show, but there are lots of you out there who are in mourning right now.

Let's contribute...and since I am off for summer break, I'll even vow to tune in and watch AMC and OLTL so that I can participate in the threads with my own questions.

To start things rolling.......Who will ultimately be the real Todd Manning? Will it be Trevor St. John, or Roger Howarth? They are both running around Llanview right now. Which one is the impostor?

Which soaps have I watched?

Not very many, including prime time ones...

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS (faithfully from 1978 to about 1983, and less and less after...not at all after about 1990)

QUEER AS FOLK (American...er, CANADIAN version, in its entirety start to finish, starting in 2000)

Yes, QAF was definitely a soap opera [SERIAL], because there were continuing and intermingling storylines throughout the series, with much character development. Just that there were no ads, for soap or anything else, because it was on pay TV.

I got started on Y & R because I had a crush on Doug Davidson, but I quickly picked up on the characters and storylines...
