I'll take this over the "haul" videos that seemed to be so huge a few years back. :) I personally prefer either a "sound soother" (those machines that play things like thunderstorms or ocean sounds) or easy listening music to fall asleep to.

Massive threadjack - my apologies.

People would go shopping, and then film themselves as they pulled everything from their "haul" out, and discussed what they bought. Just women (nearly always) who went shopping, maybe bought some make-up, or jeans, or groceries. The videos seemed to all be just these women rather disinterestedly saying things like "Yeah, sorry I haven't done one of these in a while - I've been busy" and "I got ChapStick. Strawberry. I dunno. I guess I was tired of mint." And that's it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this sort of thing, but it seems painfully dull. I mean, I'll chat with my friends about stuff they might have bought, but they're my friends. :) These are strangers simply recounting the things they bought. And these videos would have over two millions hits. And have over 500,000 people subscribed to them. Why? It's like finding a test pattern at the top of the Nielsen ratings. :0

Thanks for the links Huntneo! I've had ASMR for as long as I can remember, and it's great that this feeling finally has a name and that people are putting up videos to trigger it! :D My favorite type are role play videos. I find someone paying close and caring attention to me to be the biggest trigger. I just wish there were more male whisperers. There seems to be a huge percentage of female whisperers, and I find male voices a little more soothing for some reason.
 
This is something I've been into for a few months now, after being told about Soothtube. Granted, some of it is ridiculous, the concept of watching a video of someone making a lace doily is od, but it really does work.
There used to be a user on youtube, *thepeaceableman* who had some amazing whisper and massage relaxation roll play vids (targeted to women). He had the most amazing relaxing voice on there, unfortunately, he seems to have deleted everything on his channel.

Amazing what we do these days.

Haul videos? Yowsers. It's seeing things like this when I wonder whether free and unfettered ability to post stuff should be put up for moderation. Seems incredible that we put so much effort into making access to information cheaper and faster and higher quality and then someone uses all the advances to post a vid about buying strawberry lip-ice instead of mint.

I don't find this creepy but the little mouth sounds that you can hear (I guess because they're so close to the mic) drive me nuts! I think those sounds are just saliva, so totally natural, but it makes my skin crawl.
