To answer the question:
I would always trust completely during an initial contact with someone; as that contact progresses it is up to them to prove whether I was sensible in giving it or not.
I have always found it obvious if someone is really interested in being in my company whatever their approach; be it aloof or overfriendly.
In the same vein it has always been an intuitive reaction on my part the desire to progress further after that first introduction and again it doesn't matter what their manner towards me happens to be.
