Who eats Brussels sprouts for Thanksgiving???

I seriously considered making some sprouts this year, but I figured we had too much food as it was.

Indeed.

Some people are unable to taste chemicals in Brussels sprouts, such as sinigrin and progoitrin, that give the sprouts a bitter taste. Other people find the taste of the chemicals revolting, and others are in the middle. All based on your genetic makeup. The specific gene differences that determine which group you fall into have been traced as far back as to the Neanderthals.

More broadly, there's a group of people known as supertasters who, due to their genetic makeup, are more likely to dislike the tastes of things like broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, radish, turnips, coffee, certain alcoholic beverages, and soy-based products.

That for the extra info.

They are absolutely terrible and I despise them.

Thats it....step outside....

Ha ha! ...but seriously, a friend brought a kind of Brussels sprout cole slaw to TG dinner. Instead of cabbage he used grated Brussels sprouts and used a roasted chestnut mayonnaise. There was grated carrot and spiced with something (I forgot) ...I must get that recipe. Very very yummy!

We'll often have Brussels sprouts for one of the Holidays. I like to eat them any other time too...but yeh, the side effects can be somewhat off-putting...

When I make them, I always use my steamer basket...they come out perfectly cooked and a nice bright green color. Never boiled or microwaved...gross...they shouldn't sit in the water. Then just a little butter , kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Yum!

I hated them growing up and even into adulthood...then joking one time someone made me eat one and I loved it...I wanted to lie and say it was awful, but I couldn't...I wanted more. They're one of my favs now.

Yes and more often in many ways...But I also like mustard and turnip greens

and that kind of stuff. Raw turnips and cauliflower..the rest..I guess it is

called al dente..............whatever, pre mush....can't go there.
