Who Else Hates to Fly? Bitch and Moan

I don't really hate to fly..................but I'm sure that would change if the plane landed and I found myself in Baltimore. :p

I do it infrequently enough that I still quite enjoy it all. Provided I can sit somewhere and watch the planes take-off and land before we leave, I'm happy.

Did learn the hard way on my last trip that day-flights are a waste when you're trying max your time. Either first thing or last thing is best, a lunchtime flight just wastes the whole day.

Flying is not that bad for me if I am in the right side aisle seat and the person next to me is not too big. With that said the TSA is a pain in the ass, but I think I have figured out a way to make it easier on me.

Besides I pretty much only go to two places. Both of them are 16 hours away by car without stops or two hours by plane. I’ll take the plane.

We live in the middle of England and when we fly out to the far east, a taxi takes us to the airport - 3hrs 40mins. Wait for plane, because have to be there at least 3 hours before boarding, and due to traffic on way to airport.. Sit on plane for 13 hours, another hour for luggage reclaim, customs, and taxi to destination. In all, we can spend almost 22hrs on the move...

I hate flying but I love getting to new places. I get airsick which is annoying because I love to travel.

I honestly think in a couple of decades time people will think we were crazy to put up with what we put up with

You should try Greyhound next time. Sooooo much better experience.

It's not a choice between just the two.

There are also trains which are much less stressful, and more comfortable. Too bad that, thanks to Henry Ford, we missed out on the opportunity to build a decent railroad system.

But we can see them working well in Europe, and the rising economies of Asia are investing in them on a scale we cannot any more.

The airlines are part of our domestic oil national security complex/monopoly. As such fliers are now being taxed and used by DC to pay for tax credits and tax welfare for other monopolies, to keep them profitable and free of competitors. This is why we dont have domestic transit like rail even though air travel is much more ccontributing to rising sea levels. Flying polluting equals driving two cars per person.
These TSA taxes are now a big challenge to airlines. Not to be outdone by government overtaxing, airlines have responded by raising fares, complaining that they cant gouge us as easily, making consumers doubly screwed over.

We are many times fortunate, my partner travels so much for his job that we usually can leave London on Virgin Upper Class (There version of first class and its great)

The first thing that happens is a limo picks you up at your house. When it gets to Heathrow it goes to a drop off place where no one else goes. They tale your bags you immediately go through security and into the most fantastic lounge. Everything from Food to getting your hair cut and booze. For regular trips we go thru the same thing every ne else does except ging to Paris on a train in 2 hours and 10 minutes from the heart of Lon London to the centre of Paris. In that case passports are checked when you board when you get off you just take your bags which are in your train car and go.

If you think it takes too long, try driving :p
I've never been on a plane, and I'd be very nervous about it... but I'm sure I'd find it interesting once I got used to it.

Actually, I'd rather drive to a far away destination. Not for fear of flying, but because I love road trips. Getting there would be half the fun!

Living at the bottom corner of a map means every Asian and American destination is at least a 12 hour flight away. Europe is on the other side of the planet. Do the math on getting there.
That said, US airlines and their hub and spoke flights are a special kind of hell. Never been anywhere where passengers get shouted at so much.

I don't like the obvious---over crowded uncomfortable planes---if they were comfortable I'd be fine with it---at this point I will probably wait for this ebola thing to clear up.:p

Sitting in that chair for over 2 hours is BORING. I've been lucky that whenever I had to fly some place I always sat next to a family member or a friend. The time spent flying wouldn't be too bad if I could sleep but it's very difficult for me to fall asleep during the day and I don't really like taking pills unless I have to.

I see your getting shouted at and I raise you getting strip-searched at LAX on a Saturday night.

The worst part of any flight is usually always the wait and the TSA screening process. I understand the need for security but it sucks when you get singled out to be frisked every time. Once when I was traveling with a group, I was even pulled aside to get finger-printed (granted, I saw other random dudes get pulled aside for such similar activities). I don't understand the need to be scanned by the machine and then still get frisked.

Whenever I get a choice of seats, I invariably choose the aisle seats. Easy access to the aisle and quickest route to get off the plane when it lands.

I have driven the trip to Orlando and back, twice, when I had the time. I have also taken the Auto Train. :)

Having a bout of gas is not much better.

This. Anywhere in North America, I'll drive, thanks. Road trips are great.

No more planes for me. I'm no white-knuckler, but cigar tubes aren't meant to fly in and I can avoid being targeted as a suspected terrorist by kumquat IQers who failed sandbox.
