Who else is excited for Darren Aronofsky's "Noah"?

I've been a massive fan of Darren Aronofsky since I first watched Requiem for a Dream when I was 18. That and Black Swan are easily in my top 10 favourite movies, so I'm really excited to see what he brings to the Biblical tale of the Ark.

What I think is going to be incredible about this movie is how it creatively interprets the story of Noah:

"We wanted to smash expectations of who Noah is," says Aronofsky during a break from finishing the picture. "The first thing I told Russell is, 'I will never shoot you on a houseboat with two giraffes behind you.' ... You're going to see Russell Crowe as a superhero, a guy who has this incredibly difficult challenge put in front of him and has to overcome it."

Another interesting detail:

The Bible's account of Noah is not packed with detail. "From a storytelling perspective, the main points are that Noah is a man of faith who is picked by God, told to build an ark, builds the ark and survives," says Moore.

I'm really excited to see Aronofsky's interpretation of Noah's tale!

Another thing I can't wait for is to hear Clint Mansell's soundtrack! His soundtracks for The Fountain and Black Swan are absolutely incredible.

And I absolutely adore Emma Watson and Jennifer Connolly (she was absolutely incredible in Requiem for a Dream, and I'm really glad she's working with Darren Aronofsky again), and Russell Crowe is a hot daddy, so there's eye candy in it for both sides.

What do you guys think? Are you put off by it being partially based on a biblical tale, or will you be able to get past that and enjoy it for just being a good movie?

Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate,

Some estimate there are 7.77 million species. Since there are only a negligible number of 'unclean' animals' (those the bible say are unclean), seven pairs time 7.77 million animals and you're looking in the region of 50 million animals.

Think of the logistic nightmare of getting food for these animals, or the sheer amount of piss, poop and gaseous emissions from Noah's floating pollution vessel.

An, yeah, it's a biblical theme film which is not that appealing.

Yes.

Apparently, this isn't a Noah for the bible-thumpers, but one which is being just carefully produced and marketed enough to appeal to them. The talk has been that it may very well irritate the fundamentalists with its strong environmentalist themes.

It's just those themes which interest me. I already think that human behavior is responsible for the ecological "destruction of the Earth," so a figurative work exploring that is just echoing my own thoughts.

For what it's worth, I'm no Aronofsky fan.

No offense to the movie creator, I can't watch anything with Russell Crowe. If he's in this one all I can picture is Gladiator... with more water.

I'll watch it when it comes to DVD

It doesn't bother me that it's based on a biblical story

I can enjoy it as much as I enjoy seeing other movies based on mythological characters

I hope the FX are good

It actually looks alright. I tend to avoid the big biblical epics, mostly because they all seem to star Charlton Heston and were made a billion years ago. Except Passion of the Christ and that I avoid because Mel Gibson.

This looks okay, shame it's got Russell Crowe in it, he's such a douche-nozzle.

As much as I loathe religion and all it's laughable bullshit and stories, this movie looks like a B+ to me. I'll watch it online when a decent rip hits the web.

I love mythologies but for various reasons the Christian/Biblical stories don't appeal to me as much as Greek/Egyptian/Chinese or even the 1001 Nights stories. Plus I didn't know Noah was from medieval Norther Europe  it looks like Game Of Thrones! Also as I don't find Rusell Crowe attractive in any way whatsoever I'll give this one a pass.

The Bible and Russell Crowe? No thanks.

Don't shine science or logic on the Bible Star-Warrior. [-X It's only ever believable in an age of ignorance.

I'm surprised how many people are turned off from this movie by Russell Crowe. Aronofsky is easily the bigger turnoff.

Hmm, I wonder if it has to do with the fact that all modern adhered Abramic religions are beaten into our collective psyche as "truth" and "most certainly happened," despite overwhelming evidence it's a bunch of hooey!!

We can't enjoy the same quaint absurdity that we have for polytheistic pantheons and creation myths because those who know better use the specter of "vengeful omniscient Gods" in monotheistic religions as a tool to control and influence the masses. #-o :(

The sad fact is humans love a good story based on miracles/magic and fear of the unknown/not easily understood and are susceptible/gullible to believe "in a higher power."

Others hone in on that gullibility and use/reason: "there's a sucker born every minute!!" ;) :-<

I'm not excited about seeing and drunk and naked Russell Crow (Genesis 9:21).

Having just watched A Winter's Tale and enjoying it immensely, and having seen the trailers for Noah for awhile now, I am looking forward to it.
