Please do not set your house on fire. We know a family who nearly burnt down their garage.

Other than the risk of fire, deep fried turkey is DELICIOUS. Especially if you inject the marinade you'd usually baste a roast turkey inside the bird. It's juicier and not as dry and tough as roasted turkey. And the skin is soooo crispy.

Also an option is turkey cooked in a smoker, which has great woodsmoke flavor added to what can be kind of a flavorless meat.

Oh, look! My personal lord & savior, Alton Brown, did a Deep Fried Turkey episode!

It is on my list to do before I die, but I haven't tried it yet.

My only encounter with a deep-fried bird was when it burned-down my ex's garage.

I hear it's rather tasty when done properly.

Done right, it is divine.

I would do it outside though.

Ever since I bought my parents a turkey fryer a few years ago we have one every couple months. We try different marinades every time and I still have yet to find one I didn't like. But yes, if done right the turkey comes out so juicy and sooooooo delicious! Highly recommend it! ..|

It is very good when done right. As long as the oil is the proper temperature...it doesn't turn out greasy at all. Crisp skin and juicy tender meat inside.

My family usually does one traditional and one deep fried...the deep fried is the one that gets devoured first.

Definitely do it outside and never ever use a frozen turkey.

WTF Josh??

I've been having car trouble. Looks like I won't be making it to Thanksgiving at your house this year after all. :(

Sweetness,

Say the word and two round trip tickets from Hartsfield to SRQ will magically appear in your mailbox.

We've done several. (No 'yum' smiley so :D will have to do.)

Last one was for our neighborhood block party (and the Mayor showed up). It was gone before the burgers.

It was gone before the burgers.
The Mayor or the burgers ?

Heh...

We've been thinking about trying to fry a small one for a "practice run" or something... (Then after devouring the "good meat" (hush - all of you) ) ;)

Saving that carcass for soup and then doing "the big one" (Again - hush ;) ) for Thanksgiving.

We're planning on doing it out by the pool where *nothing* is flammable. And, if worst comes to worst we could just push the entire thing in the water.

The ultimate challenge will be keeping my family and friends SOBER until frying time.

I'm beginning to rethink the entire thing.

Some guy on another board told me that Popeye's Chicken will deep fry your bird for you for a nominal fee. So, maybe that's the way to go....
