For those who were browsing the web for gay porn in 2010/11, you probably saw the BlackSpark videos. They first appeared on XTube (RIP Xtube) and he (they?) also had a popular Tumblr blog.
Many thought that BlackSpark was one of the most prominent and sexiest guys appearing in the videos - pornstar Josh Stark - but besides that being incorrect, we never really got to know his true identity or even if he really appeared in his videos.
BlackSpark story, besides being very mysterious, is also an obscure one: the guy had an Amazon wishlist and promised that people that bought stuff off of it for him would get videos in return. Many did but never got said videos. He also charged people for new videos... and people would get a stupid cut of videos that were already floating around Tumblr and tube sites. He also charged people for exclusive content that was never delivered. He even had the guts to announce the Spark Tour and, you guessed it right, it never happened. He was also accused of claiming as his pictures taken by other photographers. Yikes!
The whole thing was an instant sensation though. You had to be around that time to see the buzz all over the web. He was interviewed by some gay websites and was even featured on a podcast. Some people loved his stuff with all their might while others despised it with passion calling it irresponsible (due to bareback) and pretentious porn disguised as high art. A list with names of the performers was leaked and I myself could check that one of the performers (besides Josh Stark) was indeed who the list claimed he was. And he was not a pornstar. Either way, most of the names were common names/last names so it was not easy to determine who was who, or even find any relevant info, and more importantly it didn't not solve the mystery regarding who Blackspark was. That is very puzzling because some performers appeared in the videos sans mask, with their faces for the whole world to see. Years ago on a forum someone asked about whatever happened to him, and someone who claimed to have connections just said "he leveled up."
The intent behind this thread is not to out anyone, or disclose real names or anything alike. But a decade later I'm still curious about what that whole thing was about. He showed up online at the time asking the question I'm now asking: who is Blackspark? It seemed he designed the whole thing to go viral and it worked. It's hard to believe that he made real money from those videos although many have claimed to have been ripped off by him. I also find it hard to believe that he was a film student because the cinematography for his stuff was not anything special or impressive. Don't get me wrong: some of the videos were beautiful to look at (especially the men!) but they were confusing, poorly edited (he used iMovie) and for their soundtrack he used some music from legit artists without proper permission. They even put up a Wikipedia page for him that was filled with directing credits he never truly owned.
Still a decade is a lot of time and I wonder if anyone here or out there can share info that would put an end to this "mystery." There are ways to still find his videos online but many don't even remember them anymore. Just as they broke the gay internet then, the whole thing died down in a similar fashion and are someone gone now.
Any clues?
