Everyone's avatar is now the same, reading "Tyler Clementi, we will never forget."
I never heard of him... what gives?

Tyler Clementi was a JUB member who one year ago committed suicide by throwing himself off a bridge after being brutally bullied and harassed by his college roommate. This is a way of honoring and remembering him. It's a good thing. Google the name. Look at the college roommate spying thread in "Garden of Memories".

Oh hell, I feel like the world's biggest asshole... OF COURSE I knew who he was; I can't believe I forgot his name, after I was so upset for so long on his behalf.
Yes, this is a very good thing.
Thank you, and I am sorry if I sounded -- well, I'm just sorry.

Dharun Ravi. That is a name we should also never forget.

My son just started his Freshmen year at Rutgers. The roommate policy has changed extensively since I went there. You can pick your roommate via facebook months in advance. If it doesn't work out you can find another classmate willing to switch with you - then register the transfer. I'm told gay guys can even room with girls and vice versa. So I guess because of Tyler Clementi it did get better at Rutgers.

But here in the enlightened northeast we are still scratching our heads as to why this happened in the first place. He jumped from a bridge that connected Rutgers to the Stonewall Inn- the birthplace of American gay rights. Have we learned anything?

Dharun Ravi. A rich kid who I predict will get off with a slap on his wrist. If he didn't like his roommate he could have driven his BMW less than an hour away to his parents estate in the nearby exclusive Princeton suburbs and commute to school. But he didn't. He chose to bully. And should he get off with a minor misdemeanor I predict a story in the local paper. No outrage. no anti-hate marches. No mark in the sand. Just another gay named Tyler tortured to death and his family destroyed by grief.

better you google first, eh?

Thought for the day:

Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear.

I geuss "Remember the Pueblo" would be totally lost on you..

okay - now I'm sorry - just bustin' -- I know you had a senior moment..... it happens.

I guess you should learn how to spell guess before putting down others for a mistake...

RIP buddy. may this trial offer a little bit of respite to your family in what they are going through with your loss.

Here's hoping justice is served.

And thanks to the staff at JUB for rememering and changing all the Avators in memory of Tyler :=D:

Are you sure that he will get off I mean everyone in the WORLD KNOWS what he did and his name I mean who is going to want to associate with him, work with him, socialize with him. I mean he and that girl who did this are basically runed for life unless he changes his name and even then.

I respect the fact the moderators want to honor this person. His suicide was a tragedy. I personally do not believe his situation is comparable to what happens to GLBT youth in middle school/high school in terms of bullying. I know that the site has done the single avatar in the past but I really feel that the community should be given a choice to change the avatar or not. The board has a diverse group of opinions from all over the world. I am uncomfortable with the notion that a singular avatar (in the context that there was choices previously) is imposed on the entire community implying a singular opinion if even for one day. I know the moderators/owners of the site can do whatever they want but I would respectfully disagree with their decision on this matter.

I think your post is insensitive and shows a severe lack of respect for a member of our community that went through hell for who he was. If I was a moderator you would be banned for this site. Disgusting.....smfh:grrr:

Well that really isn't proper grounds for banning someone, and it's probably a good thing that you aren't a moderator because someone in that position of authority should be impartial in making such decisions.

Although he was pretty insensitive in the way he put it, and I'm sure he didn't mean to be, I too want to know how long this will last. Its fine that the site wants to pay their respects to this person, but there are other ways they could've done it rather than forcing everyone to have the same avatar. That way we can pay our respects in a manner that isn't such an annoyance to anyone.

As it often happens some of you have turned something beautiful into something ugly. If this change bothers you so much might I suggest you not visit JUB for a while until you get over ir or get laid, the latter being something based on your frustration you need desperately to do.

I repeat

Thanks to the staff at JUB for remembering and changing all the Avatars in memory of Tyler :=D::=D:
