http://news.yahoo.com/police-boy-2-accidentally-kills-mom-wal-mart-201635957.html

A 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mother after he reached into her purse at a northern Idaho Wal-Mart and her concealed gun fired, authorities said Tuesday.

The 29-year-old woman was shopping with her son and three other children, Kootenai County sheriff's spokesman Stu Miller told The Associated Press. Her family had come to the area to visit relatives, he said.

The woman, whose identity was not released, had a concealed weapons permit. Miller said the young boy was left in a shopping cart, reached into the victim's purse and grabbed a small-caliber handgun, which discharged one time......

Maybe we should let all the gun nuts have their way so they can kill themselves and each other. The rest of us could then adopt reasonable laws that would keep guns OUT of the hands of infants.

If a government dumbs down the people then at least quit letting them buy hand guns.

The people have dumbed themselves down, that can't all be blamed on Uncle Sam.

Yes and no. Uncle Sam is made up of people, many of whom are just as dumb as a majority of the nation (maybe even dumber), but is not the cause. More like the effect. Dumb people elect dumb officials, who pass dumb laws.

It's a bit of which came first, the chicken or the egg.

Not really. The dumb officials would never have made it to office if they weren't voted in by dumb voters. The people dumbed first.

Not often I'm lost for words on a gun related death in the states as its routine occurrence, a non event, but this latest story has actually managed it. The last time was hearing about the 'fun for all the family' center called...."bullets and burgers"

Told this latest killing to my mother and then asked her what country did it happen....she said, quote "either America or one of those Muslim countries"

Nice company there.

Except the "Muslim countries" likely wouldn't have a Walmart as it is too Western.

I think everyone should have guns because then a crook would have to think twice about robbing people plus if you outlaw guns only crooks would have guns. But also people needs to be careful to keep guns out of reach of kids

I need gun regulation which is completely different from gun control. This is not a panacea, but a move in the right direction. Case in point: a law must have rational basis - it has to make sense. A 6-year-old cannot walk into a bar and order drinks. The case against selling alcohol to minors has rational basis. We prohibited the sale and distribution of alcohol once, but history tells us that this plan was unenforceable.

My own camera has a lock - a far cry from a gun. However, the camera manufacturing company didn't piss and moan about our "liberty" being compromised. The difference is that now we have ALEC, which funds the NRA so it can lobby Congress to pass bills which favor the NRA.

I don't want innocent people to get shot, including me. :D

There has already been an attempt to get gun manufacturers to put locks on hand guns. The NRA knocked it down. This was many, many years ago, back when American Justice was still on A&E.

More people die in cars than with guns. Why aren't people screaming to outlaw cars?

At least the woman was well-protected by the concealed weapon in her purse, at the time she was killed.

Actually, that's not true. Annual traffic and gun deaths in the USA were almost identical, as of 2012 (the last year for which data is available). But traffic deaths have been declining for many years, due to increased regulation of cars, while gun deaths have been increasing for many years. It is likely that gun deaths now exceed traffic deaths.

It is not true that people are not screaming to make cars safer. They are, and we have. Unfortunately, we are not permitted by our politics to make guns safer in America. There is only one product in existence which, every year, kills more people than it did the previous year - without anybody trying to do something about it.

And, in any case, cars have a usefulness beyond just killing people.

But, are you guys talking about accidental gun deaths, or intentional shootings/killings/murders?

I would think that more Americans die in vehicle accidents than in gun accidents.

A link or two with some quotes might be handy. Maybe even take a look at vehicular homicide/manslaughter.

We scream for regulation to be upheld. There is already enough law in place to minimize vehicular deaths, if it would be properly utilized. Current regulations on gun ownership continues to leave us all open to gun assault.

It's interesting, or perhaps puzzling, that you would allow/offer an 'out', or pardon, to the auto industry/laws but not to the gun industry/laws.

Could you be more specific as to which regulations you refer to in that last line, please.
